Here's an interview with Marco:

http://www.mmo-gamer.com/?p=142

Couple of things:

The MMO Gamer: Does MindArk take a transaction fee when players trade with each other?

Marco Behrmann: No. We also don’t take any transaction fees converting real-virtual currency.

Huh ?...:scratch2: Last time I depo'd they did.

The MMO Gamer: MindArk has gone into partnership with Cyber Recreation Development Corp in China to develop what seems like an entirely different virtual world than Entropia Universe with seemingly an increased focus on culture, education and real life work than just playing a game. How different will the new project be from what EU looks like today?

Marco Behrmann: The partnership will create a more varied and diverse universe, with a lot of planets to explore. Various planets will have various themes or focus, like shopping, culture, gaming, e-commerce, education, etc. But it will all be under the same concept that is Entropia Universe.

Interesting....

There's more, like logging in, where the Servers will be, etc....

Well, those are more than likely transaction fees the credit card company charge. MA just passes that back to you, rather than hiding it in the price, like a lot of merchants do.

When you got to an ATM not owned by your bank, they tack a 2% fee on top of you $100 withdraw, so you actually pay $102, and your CC or bank will often tack on another 1.5 - 3% so that $100 ATM withdrawal actually costs you $103.50 or $105. The bookkeeping is easier if they just take it out of the initial withdrawal.

The MMO Gamer: When western companies expand into China, there are worries about censorship. Will Entropia Universe be filtered and censored according to Chinese policies? Stories of giants such as Google and Yahoo filtering web searches of keywords such as democracy or falun gong comes to mind.

Marco Behrmann: There have been no such demands from CRD.

Then why, oh why, did you dress the umbras. lmao

Different themes for planets... maybe we will get a planet dedicated to casinos... unless Calypso falls under that category...?

:( I am a little wary of that interview. If the game as it is now does not stay the focus of entropia I don't know if I will be staying around. I have a SL account, I rarely go there because it is a world of immaturity, annoyance, and looks like it drained out of a crackheads ear into existence (Just a generalization :) )

I am still a little unsettled about the chinese also. Yahoo and Google bend to their will, the main servers will be located on chinese soil, talking about tiananmen square is forbidden, something school children there know nothing about. Over a billion people divided in belief and the older population so ingrained through propaganda. Even with their emerging markets I see China as to volatile. It is only a matter of time before the communists crackdown (like tiananmen square) to keep power or a democratic type form of government evolves more than likely through a bloody coup or another revolution. Either way it does not bode well for EU. I hope I am wrong and I am not trying to be a doomsday prophet. Only stating how I see it.

Well, there's always risk in investing....that's the EU mantra these days, seems like.

Or look at it this way: ooo, EU is "Dynamic" !

Honestly, The way I feel is that if EU drops off the face of the Earth, so what? There's other things to do.

Nice game & all but MA as a company :proof:, well, if they go belly up they deserve it. :coffee:

Yeah, if EU goes its not the end of the world I know. I will get over it and find something else :) . I just don't want to see it turn into SL and I am not a fan of supporting... ummm, well, bad governments is the best way to put it I suppose. Saying that goes to another whole level of problems though lol.

I forgot to say in my last post. Thanks for posting the interview Yirrk.

Yer welcome ;)

Yeah I just saw a program on China the other day. What I got from that show is that big US computer companies are giving ( I should say Selling) China the means to precisely & efficiently administer their Political agendas. Cisco, that was one company that was mentioned, along with Yahoo and Google. Cisco responded that they sell to whoever buys and what the buyer does with it is not Cisco's responsibility. They simply comply with the laws of the country in which the buyer is based.

Cisco Systems has sold several thousand routers to enable China to build an online spying system and the firm's engineers have helped set it to spot 'subversive' key-words in messages.

OK let me ask this: How morally and ethically responsible would a company be to sell its surveillance technology to, say, Nazi Germany?

Hmmmm..:scratch2:?

My thoughts exactly...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECHELON

Lots of companies dealt with the Nazis.
Business transactions for profit with Nazi Germany were not even illegal when Hitler declared war on the US, but, six days after the attack on Pearl Harbor, President Franklin Delano Roosevelt signed the Trading With the Enemy Act after it had been made public that U.S. companies were doing business with the declared enemy of the United States.

On October 20, 1942, the U.S. government ordered the seizure of Nazi German banking operations in New York City. President Franklin Roosevelt's Alien Property Custodian, Leo T. Crowley, signed Vesting Order Number 248 seizing the property of Prescott Bush under the Trading with the Enemy Act.

Prescott Sheldon Bush is, of course, father of former U.S. President George H. W. Bush and the grandfather of current President George W. Bush.

For it, he was reimbursed $1,500,000 USD. These assets were later used to launch Bush family investments in the Texas energy industry.

If the game as it is now does not stay the focus of entropia
It will. That is what makes Entropia unique and we have no intention of changing that aspect.

We will also add to the universe concept and I guess some parts of the total universe will be less game-like. But this will not be the core of the Entropia development.

Don't know and don't have the time to read through the entire thread (exams) if this is already mentioned but isn't it forbidden by law to charge back the transfer costs banks charge you the receiver for receiving the moneytransfers of your clients?

After all you already pay your part of those costs . Part of it you pay with in your annual subscription fee for the cc, another per transaction.(most of the time you will only get a detail of them at the end of the year.)

Doesn't that fall under doublecharging for a rendered service? (which is illegal throughout the world)

Nope.
ATM and bank charge card systems are separate from the actual banks. They charge a service fee.
Any business is allowed to charge back any Cost of Business to buyer.

Many banks will offer free atm transactions when you are using THEIR ATM, but will charge you if you use an ATM that is owned by another service or bank. And those cool little ATM units at the airport or the quickie Mart at the petrol station or service plaza are an independent transaction network and they charge you the fee up front. You have to agree to the fee before you get your money.

The merchants must pay a fee to the card service for CC transactions, and they usually find a way to pass that cost of business back to the consumer.

That is why many fuel stations used to (and still do in some states) give a discount for paying cash. Some merchants will offer that kind of discount, as well.
