The purpose of this thread is to provide a centralized place for members and forum staff to discuss the rationale for and implementation of specific PCF Forum Rules.

The purpose of this thread is NOT for members to criticize individual forum staff members whom they may have an issue with, nor to condemn the overall administration or moderation of PlanetCalypsoForum.

This thread is for mature, constructive and civilized discussion of particular forum rules. Posts containing unnecessary aggression, flaming or other immature content will be deleted without notice.

Please keep in mind that every member of PlanetCalypsoForum has agreed to abide by the forum rules when creating their account, and that all content submitted to PCF is subject to the Terms of Service. All submitted content that is in violation of the PCF Forum Rules or PCF Terms of Service is subject to moderation by the PCF forum staff.

The vast majority of the PCF Forum Rules have been in place for many years, and have served well in helping to promote and maintain a mature, friendly, informative and enjoyable community focused on Entropia Universe. None of the rules are arbitrary; each rule was created to address a specific type of behavior that had disrupted the forum community repeatedly in the past.

Wow. Seeing that hack job in the other thread https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/...Rules-Discussion-Thread&p=3457462#post3457462 is probably my saddest day on this forum.

Everything I said there WAS constructive.

I think we should allow criticism. Ideas are perceived as criticism by the weak...it is too hard to decide what is criticism and what is constructive input. (*specifically regarding Rule 2.14)

I think we should allow scammers and exploiters and shady sellers to be named. It is better for the game that this stuff is talked about openly. (*specifically regarding Rule 2.13)

I think we should allow us to fight with each other. It is the ONLY way stuff gets resolved. When stuff gets resolved, fighting ends...either someone backs down and sees they were wrong...or people apologize or even become friends. Constantly removing the posts doesn't stop the wars from brewing and hurting this game...(*specifically regarding Rule 2.3)

I think this is ALL in MA's best interest.

I think that it is in MA's best interest to keep us here with a moderately moderated forum, rather than make us all leave for an unrestricted forum.

Please, limit some of your rules, and be fair when enforcing them.

It is clear from your actions and what you wrote in the OP that you will refuse to change. I still wanted this write this here. If all this forum becomes is a sales thread, then you did a major disservice to the game you claim to want to protect.

TO BE MORE "SPECIFIC"

PlanetCalypsoForum Rules

1. MEMBERSHIP AND MEMBER ACCOUNTS

1.1 - Age Requirement
You must be 13 years of age or older to gain membership to and/or participate in Planet Calypso Forum. FINE

1.2 - Single Account
You may only have ONE account on PlanetCalypsoForum. Multiple accounts will be deleted, and the original account temporarily banned, all without notice. If this rule is abused more than once, the original (first) account may be permanently banned, and the member's IP address may be permanently blocked, all without notice.FINE

1.3 - Sharing of Account
You may NOT share your PlanetCalypsoForum account with any other forum members, Entropia Universe participants or other individuals. This rule applies especially to the sharing of accounts with temporarily or permanently banned PlanetCalypsoForum members. In ALL cases, you are responsible for any content or activity that originates from your member account.FINE

1.4 - Banned Members
Permanently or temporarily banned members may NOT create new accounts in order to circumvent or dispute their ban. Such accounts will also be banned, and all threads or posts will be removed from the forum, all without notice. Banned members found creating duplicate accounts will find their ban extended significantly (or permanently), and may risk having their IP address blocked, all without notice. If you wish to contact the forum staff to discuss a ban, please use the Contact Us link at the bottom of any forum page.FINE

1.5 - Impersonation
You may NOT impersonate other Entropia Universe participants, Forum Staff, MindArk representatives, Forum Staff or other Entropia Universe planet partner representatives, real-world persons, celebrities or public figures.FINE

1.6 - Member Names
Member names may NOT contain any offensive, racist, sexually explicit, profane, abusive or otherwise objectionable terms. Also, you may NOT use a confusing or intentionally misleading member name, such as "Official Entropia Reporter" or a member name that is confusingly similar to that of an existing member, administrator or moderator.FINE

2. GENERAL FORUM ETIQUETTE

2.1 - English Only
PlanetCalypsoForum is an English-only forum. All content posted in publicly viewable areas of the forum must be written in English.FINE

2.2 - Insults/Flaming
Personal attacks, insults, rudeness, racism, threats, name calling or unnecessarily inflammatory posts are not permitted. Posts of this nature will be edited or deleted by the Community Staff without notice and the offending member may be temporarily or permanently banned without notice. It is important to keep in mind that PlanetCalypsoForum is a global community and what might be acceptable behavior or language in one country may not be acceptable in others. Common courtesy, politeness and respect for fellow members and forum staff, along with constructive posting of opinions is essential in preventing posts from being edited and/or deleted, or having threads locked. BULL POOP

2.3 - Personal Disputes
Personal issues between individuals or societies should NOT be debated in the public forum areas and are not permitted. Such threads will be removed without notice, since they often promote an escalation of rudeness, insults, and flaming. If you feel that another member has attacked you unfairly, send a private message to a forum moderator or administrator. If you feel that an Entropia Universe participant has wronged, defrauded or harassed you, file a support case at PlanetCalypso.com. BULL POOP (for reasons stated above)

2.4 - Threats/Intimidation
Real life threats of bodily harm, injury or assault (either explicit or implied) or any form of intimidation are STRICTLY PROHIBITED on any part of the PlanetCalypsoForum website and will be deleted and result in a permanent ban from the forum, all without notice. FINE

2.5 - Personal Information
Revealing real world personal information about a forum member, administrator, moderator, Entropia Universe participant, or MindArk or Planet Partner representative is STRICTLY PROHIBITED, regardless of the source, public or private. This includes any information about a forum member or Entropia Universe participant that reveals an individual's legal name, address, occupation or other sensitive or personally identifiable information. All such content will be deleted without notice, and result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum without notice. FINE

2.6 - Private Communication
Posting the content from a private communication in a publicly viewable area of PlanetCalypsoForum is NOT permitted. Private communications include any medium where the involved parties have a reasonable expectation of privacy, such as: emails, chat logs, instant messenger logs, private messages, private society forum posts, private social group posts, reputation comments, etc. Such private communications are to remain private, not shared with third parties. Any such private communication content posted on PlanetCalypsoForum will be deleted without notice. BULL POOP (You have deleted stuff that shows chat in public channels, and you delete names of sellers on public auctions many time in the past based errantly on this rule!)

2.7 - Profanity
Profanity in thread titles or user titles is NOT permitted. Profanity in posts should be kept to a minimum, and not be used in a comment directed at other members, Forum Staff members, Entropia Universe planet partner representatives or MindArk representatives. While generalizations using profanity and/or foul language may be common in everyday conversation, when used in a direct communication to another person, they can be interpreted as rude or insulting. Excessively profane content may be edited or deleted without notice, and may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum without notice, depending on severity. BULL POOP

2.8 - Shouting
You may NOT shout (all capital letters, and/or excessive punctuation) in posts or thread titles. Any such shouting may be deleted or edited without notice. Use caps and punctuation only for minimal emphasis. BULL POOP(in posts, but fine in thread title)

2.9 - Excessive Complaining
Excessive complaining and/or whining disrupts the Mission of PlanetCalypsoForum and interferes with the ability of other members and visitors to enjoy their visit to PlanetCalypsoForum, and is therefore NOT permitted. Any content submitted to PlanetCalypsoForum that is considered by the Forum Staff to be in violation of this rule may be edited or deleted without notice. BULL POOP (way too broad)

2.10 - Affiliate Links/Solicitation
Advertising real life items or services unrelated to Entropia Universe, the posting of affiliate or referral links, or any other form of solicitation is NOT permitted on PlanetCalypsoForum (this includes member profiles or any other publicly viewable area). If you would like to advertise on PlanetCalypsoForum, please use the Contact Us link at the bottom of any forum page to inquire. Similarly, promotion of or posting links to charities or other services soliciting donations or money is NOT permitted. Any such postings may be deleted without notice. FINE

2.11 - Entropia Universe Terms of Use/EULA Violation
Any thread, post, signature or publicly viewable content that clearly violates the Entropia Universe Terms of Use or End User License Agreement (EULA) will be deleted without notice, and may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum without notice, and if severe enough it may have impact on your ingame account. This rule includes such things as the sale of avatars, the sale of PED or items for cash, attempts to circumvent the official deposit/withdrawal channels, attempts to exploit a weakness in the client software and/or Entropia Universe servers, or defamation of any person, firm or entity, including, without limitation, MindArk PE AB, AR Universe AB, Forum Staff, Entropia Universe planet partners, MindArk's representatives and/or Entropia Universe. FINE

2.12 - Illegal Content
Any discussion of, or links to web sites promoting software piracy, warez, illegal downloads, cracks, cd keys, illegal file-sharing, pornography, illegal drugs, or any other illegal or similar content will be deleted without notice and may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum without notice. Such discussions and links are totally inappropriate on PlanetCalypsoForum (and often illegal in the US, Europe and most other countries). FINE

2.13 - Scamming Accusation
Accusations of scamming that name specific real-world persons, Entropia Universe avatars or PlanetCalypsoForum.com members are NOT permitted. Providing other identifying information about accused persons or avatars is also not permitted, such as but not limited to: society names, nicknames, owned gear, equipment, estates, etc. Such threads or posts will be edited, deleted or locked without notice. For more info on the purpose of this rule, please see this thread: Rationale for the "no naming and shaming" forum rule. BULL POOP (for reasons stated above)

2.14 - Administrator/Moderator Criticism
Criticism of these forum rules, or Forum Staff implementation of these forum rules is NOT permitted in any publicly viewable area of the forum. Such content will be deleted without notice. If you disagree with how the forum is being moderated or administered, please use the Contact Us link at the bottom of any forum page to contact the Forum Staff. If you are unclear about the purpose or interpretation of one of the forum rules, either contact an administrator via private message, or consult the PlanetCalypsoForum Rules Discussion thread. BULL POOP (for reasons stated everywhere)

2.15 - Word Filter Circumvention
Certain offensive words, terms or links are automatically filtered by the forum software. Such filtered words will be replaced with exclamation points (e.g. !!!!!!!). Any attempts to circumvent the automated forum word filter (such as by adding spaces/dots/punctuation, using colors or text markups, or by substituting characters) will result in the offending content being edited or deleted, and may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum, all without notice. BULL POOP

3. DISCUSSION AND POSTING

3.1 - Spamming/Flooding/Trolling
The following are NOT permitted on PlanetCalypsoForum:

Spamming - Posting the same thread in multiple forums, or posting the same post in multiple threads, or sending unsolicited private messages to members.
Flooding - Posting many times in succession in a single thread.
Trolling - Constant harassment of a member, or repeated off-topic and/or rude posts in a thread.

Depending on severity, content in violation of this rule will be edited or deleted, and may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum, all without notice. BULL POOP (as to the trolling part because it is TOO VAGUE)

3.2 - Off Topic
Please make every effort to keep your posts relevant to the active thread topic. Detours usually take a thread wildly off topic, and invite others to do the same. Off topic posts (and any responses to such posts) may be deleted without notice. BULL POOP (if off topic occurs, please be fair and delete the person that caused it to go off topic too)

3.3 - Thread Location
Please make an effort to post new threads in the appropriate forum or subforum. Posting threads in the proper section makes the forum easier to browse for all members and visitors, and reduces the workload for our volunteer community staff. If you are unsure where to post a new thread, please take the time to read the forum descriptions in order to familiarize yourself with the focus of the various available forums and subforums. Threads posted in an inappropriate forum may be moved or deleted without notice. FINE

3.4 - Crossposting
You may NOT crosspost (creating redundant threads that link to or promote an existing thread for the purpose of gaining extra visibility). Such threads will be closed or deleted without notice. FINE

3.5 - Necroposting
Pointlessly bumping of dormant, inactive threads causes confusion for other members and visitors who may not notice the original thread post date. A thread is considered inactive if there have been no replies in the last four (4) months. Posting in an inactive thread is strongly discouraged, unless there is a very good reason for reactivating the thread. If you feel an issue or topic from an inactive thread deserves renewed discussion, please create a new thread in the appropriate forum or subforum. FINE

3.6 - Real-world Controversial Discussion
Discussion of real world politics, nationalism, religion, war, or other similarly controversial topics is NOT permitted or appropriate for this forum. PlanetCalypsoForum, as the game, is a global community with players from many different countries around the world. Discussion of such topics often disrupts the forum community. Therefore, refrain from starting or participating in any such discussions, as they will be deleted from the forum without notice. FINE

3.7 – Advertising/Recruiting
Advertising or attempts of recruiting community members to other computer games, virtual worlds or MMORPGs other than Planet Calypso is NOT permitted. Any and all such, references, threads or posts, including, without limitation, those that appear in avatar pictures, member profiles or member signatures, may be deleted without notice and may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum without notice. FINE

3.8 - Quitting/Leaving
Any threads or posts about leaving Planet Calypso, Entropia Universe or PlanetCalypsoForum, such as “I’m Quitting” or “Taking a Break” whether for positive or negative reasons, will be deleted without notice. This rule applies especially to sales threads. If you are leaving Entropia Universe and are selling your items, DO NOT include comments in your sales thread that indicate that you are quitting or taking a break. Members who are curious about the intentions of the thread starter can inquire via a private message, or within Entropia Universe. BULL POOP (this is egregious)

3.9 - Posting for Banned Members
Members are NOT permitted to post on behalf of any member permanently or temporarily banned from PlanetCalypsoForum. Similarly, members are NOT permitted to allow any banned member to use their PlanetCalypsoForum account to circumvent a ban (See Rule 1.3 above). Any postings in violation of this provision may be deleted without notice and may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum without notice. FINE

3.10 - Bumping of Threads
Bumping of threads is only permitted ONCE in any 24 hour period, and only if the thread has been pushed to the second page of a forum (using default viewing settings). This rule applies especially for the Trading forums. Bumping of threads by friends is NOT permitted at any time. FINE

3.11 - Frivolous Posts
Please refrain from making pointless and unnecessary posts in threads, such as "First Post!!!" "In before the lock!" or "LOL!!" or other very short messages that add little to a discussion. Frivolous posts such as these may be deleted without notice. BULL POOP

3.12 - Quotes
Quoting very large posts in their entirety is NOT permitted. Please limit quotes of other posts to those portions that are directly relevant to your reply or response. Doing so makes replies easy to follow for fellow members, and helps reduce unnecessary scrolling when reading a thread. Posts in violation of this provision may be deleted without notice. BULL POOP

3.13 Discussion of other Planet Partners
Discussion of other planet partners within Entropia Universe should take place in the “Other Planet Partners” forum. Advertising or recruiting for other Planets is not allowed. Any posts in violation of this provision may be deleted without notice. BULL POOP

3.14 Other Community Forums
Other community forums revolving around Entropia Universe or Planet Calypso will be allowed to keep a blog at PlanetCalypsoForum where they can announce their updates, events, offers or similar which requires members of PlanetCalypsoForum to create an account or log in on their site. All posts of this manner MUST be contained in the blog. Notice that these blogs are also a subject to PlanetCalypsoForum’s rules and PlanetCalypsoForum reserves the right to remove such blogs at any time. FINE

4. IMAGES, AVATARS AND SIGNATURES
4.1 - Third Party Images
All images embedded in threads, posts or blog entries MUST be uploaded to the PlanetCalypsoForum Gallery, or to your personal member album. In order to prevent broken links, the use of third-party image hosting sites is NOT permitted. FINE

4.2 - Image Sizes
Any image embedded in a thread, post or blog entry that horizontally expands the forum tables or otherwise disrupts the website layout will be edited or deleted without notice. For large images that you wish to include in a post, please use the thumbnail display or direct link options. FINE

4.3 - Objectionable Image Content
Pornographic, sexually explicit or excessively violent imagery is NOT permitted anywhere on PlanetCalypsoForum. Obscene images, pornography, or offensive content related to gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, and any other imagery or language that the Forum Staff deems inappropriate will be deleted without notice. This rule also applies to avatar, profile and signature images. In most cases, a member will be sent a private message requesting that the image in question be replaced, unless the material is extremely offensive in the Forum Staff's sole discretion, in which case it will be immediately removed without notice. Any such posting may result in a temporary or permanent ban from the forum. FINE

4.4 - Image Category
When uploading images to the forum gallery, please make an effort to place them in the most suitable gallery category. Doing so makes the gallery easier to browse for members. Images posted in improper categories may be moved without notice. FINE

4.5 - Signature Limits
Text used in your signature may not be overly long, may not use characters larger than “SIZE=3” and may only contain five (5) lines of text. Please limit graphical signatures to 500x120 pixels. One 500x120 pixel image and one line of text is acceptable, but not an image along with a large amount of text. Please keep your signature as small as possible, since large signatures clutter the forum and cause unnecessary amounts of scrolling when reading threads. Note that signatures are only displayed in a member's first post of a thread page. FINE

5. TRADE
5.1 - Auction Competition
If an item is listed in the Entropia Universe auction system, you are NOT permitted to post a sales thread for the same item on PlanetCalypsoForum. The purpose of the PlanetCalypsoForum Trading section is to facilitate deals not easily accomplished using the existing mechanisms available within Entropia Universe. The PlanetCalypsoForum Trading section is NOT provided as a means to circumvent the fees associated with the Entropia Universe auction, nor to compete with the Entropia Universe auction in any way. Any post in violation of this provision may be deleted without notice. FINE

5.2 - Trading Thread Maintenance
It is the responsibility of every member to monitor their Trading forum threads, and to respond in a timely manner to other members who submit bids or offers (either within the thread, or via private message). Thread starters should also make a post in their Trading threads indicating if an item is sold or withdrawn, or an auction or sale is cancelled. FINE

5.3 - Trading Procedures
Please try to make your Trading thread rules and procedures simple and clear. While PlanetCalypsoForum wishes to give its members flexibility in creating Trading threads, we reserve the right to close or delete any unnecessarily confusing or restrictive Trading threads, based on member feedback. FINE

5.4 - Trading Execution
Any member who routinely fails to follow through on sales or purchases made in the Trading forum risks losing access to this portion of PlanetCalypsoForum. If you feel another member has acted unfairly in a Trading thread, or does not honor an agreement finalized in a Trading thread, please contact the Forum Staff explaining the issue, along with a link to the related Trading thread. FINE

5.5 - Trading Thread Abuse
Off-topic posts made in Trading threads are NOT permitted. The only posts permitted in Trading threads are the following:

Bids
Offers
Requests to the thread starter for additional information directly related to item or service offered
Requests to the thread starter for additional information regarding the auction/bidding/offer procedure
Retraction of a Bid or Offer
Threadstarter reply to one of the above

Any posts that do not fit one of the above categories will be deleted without notice. If you wish to discuss the market value of an item or service, please create a thread in one of the following forums: Items, Price Check or General Economy Discussion, as appropriate. Any member found to frequently ignore or abuse this rule risks permanently losing all posting privileges in the Trading section. FINE

5.6 - Misleading/Inaccurate Sales Threads
Information provided in Trading threads should be kept factual, verifiable and reasonable. This includes information regarding the statistics, qualities or characteristics of an item, past sales, and/or market history. The use of intentionally misleading information or highly debatable, exaggerated or inaccurate claims in Trading threads is NOT permitted, as such claims and comments invite off-topic discussion and violations of Rule 5.5 and will be deleted without notice. FINE

5.7 - Trading Currencies
All prices must be expressed in PED (or EFD for EFD auctions). Sales threads or links with prices expressed in real-world currencies are NOT permitted, as this implies a transaction for cash outside of Entropia Universe approved channels, a violation of the EULA, and will be deleted without notice. FINE

5.8 - Shops
Any thread relating to items available for purchase in a shop within Entropia Universe should be posted in the Shops subforum, NOT in the Selling subforum. Also, please create only ONE thread for your shop, NOT individual threads for each item available in your shop. Any post in violation of this provision will be deleted without notice. FINE

This is how this thread is intended to work:
You quote a forum rule, and then share your constructive criticism related to that specific forum rule.

If you are unwilling or unable to follow the guidelines set out in the opening post, then your participation is not welcome, and further intentional disregard will result in your posts simply being deleted.
There, I was as specific as I could be.

I agree.

I saw I was modded for commenting on a post that was not deleted.

I commented on 711's previous post which was critical of me yet my response was deleted but the original post stood.

The one I would like changed is discussing other games. Maybe even put in a subforum specifically for it, and still not allow it in other parts of the forum?

My funny comment was deleted in that other thread.

I said...

I saw a sign the other day it made me laugh.

"SAVE TIME...see it my way"

Come on...that's funny

"I think we should allow scammers and exploiters and shady sellers to be named. It is better for the game that this stuff is talked about openly."

No, its not. Because there is no way for people to know whats actually true or not. And not all players visit forum so it would be possible to ruin their reputation without them even knowing it.
Actually, there is SO much wrong with the suggestion that its not even possible to list them all.

You base your opinion on how you are as a person, remember that there are alot that are completely different and would abuse this freedom.

I for one are grateful for a "clean" forum even if I may have or had issues with some rules I find them all reasonable and they serve the greater purpose.

That's debatable, but almost all of your posts were off-topic in the thread. Just as almost all of your reply here in this thread seems to have completely ignored the guidelines set out in the opening post.

I think we should allow criticism. Ideas are perceived as criticism by the weak...it is too hard to decide what is criticism and what is constructive input.
Constructive criticism of MindArk and Entropia Universe is certainly permitted on PCF, and has been since its inception. Nothing in the forum rules prohibits such.

Anyone claiming that criticism of MindArk or EU is not permitted on PCF is simply being dishonest. There are literally thousands of threads and tens of thousands of unmoderated posts here on PCF that are critical of specific aspects of Entropia Universe or decisions made by MindArk over the years.

I think we should allow scammers and exploiters and shady sellers to be named. It is better for the game that this stuff is talked about openly.
Please read the Rationale for forum rule 2.13 - Scamming Accusation where the purpose of this rule is explained in great detail.

I think we should allow us to fight with each other. It is the ONLY way stuff gets resolved. When stuff gets resolved, fighting ends...either someone backs down and sees they were wrong...or people apologize or even become friends. Constantly removing the posts doesn't stop the wars from brewing and hurting this game...
Fighting and bickering is how children resolve things, not adults.
Allowing unregulated flame wars is one of the fastest ways to destroy an internet forum community.
If a member decides to ignore the forum rules and cannot treat other PCF members with maturity and respect, then they are not welcome to participate and will be subject to their submitted content being moderated.

I think this is ALL in MA's best interest.

I think that it is in MA's best interest to keep us here with a moderately moderated forum, rather than make us all leave for an unrestricted forum.
Noone is "making" you do anything.
You agreed to the forum rules when you created your PCF account, and you agree to them every time you submit content to PCF. If you choose to ignore those rules and community standards, then that is your choice.

Please, limit some of your rules, and be fair when enforcing them.
The PCF staff makes every effort to enforce the forum rules fairly and evenly in all cases and for all members. The longevity and growth of the PCF community is a testament that those efforts have been largely successful.

I am just discussing the rules. So to the red portion of your reply, I ask WTF?

To the black portion, I ask...well aren't you owned by MA now? I mean, you volunteer for them right? So we can criticize MA, but not you, because you are a volunteer for them? I DON'T GET IT.

Either way, I knew all your answers would be exactly this. But I wanted to make my point on the rules...or am I not allowed to discuss what I think would be good rule changes in this thread made for rule discussion?

I ask this seriously...not trying to be a smart-ass...I mentioned some rules, and you told me why they are in place...isn't that exactly what this is for?

There was an audio clip, which I can share, that talked about bullies and how they behave. I'm reminded of that every time I read the rationale behind trying to name scammers publcally. If everyone was capable of making the correct conclusion, if people's definition of what a scam is was absolute, and people all had good intentioms, that rule wouldn't need to be there.

But in the last couple months alone, weve had certain few throw accusations around with only speculation, people using exploits which were later disproven, stirring up drama when already cautioned, and blaming someone for a scam when the OP made a mistake (when one could make the case that stock options work in the same manner). All is great until you are in the cross hairs and are in so unfairly. Then you'll wish this forum was clean.

It's a fine line. Reputation, in this game, is the most valuable asset you have in the game. That is why it is such a big target, as such, so very easy to destroy.

I admire the patience of the mods and owner.

Discussion of other games should be allowed imo.

Off topic posting should be allowed as long as it doesn't get out of hand. The rule is ok, but no need to moderate jokes and a few other comments here and then. If the entire thread starts spinning out of it's purpose, it makes sense to clean it up.

Are only potential customers allowed to post in a buying or selling thread?

people using exploits which were later disproven,

Where did that happen, mr. know-it-all?

The thread on the guns like MM getting way too much damage when over 100 spm was 100% correct.

The thread on the CDF guns wasn't wrong either, MA just fixed it recently....why do you think a bunch are for sale. If you used certain buffs, it gave double buffs because of the 10% skill mod.

Just because it wasn't spelled out for you exactly what happened and what MA did to fix it doesn't mean it was wrong.

Those are the two I started.

So what other exploit was proved wrong...I really want to know. If you can't discuss exploits because there was a WRONG one, I want to know what it is.

I think the forum rules fully allow discussing exploits and if names are used, so what? It is inherent in finding or fixing most exploits that people sometimes get named, because they used those guns , or it is their tracker we are referencing when identifying mining bugs etc etc. So what? We are all man enough to respond and figure it out...and if people are accused who are stupid enough to NOT use this forum, then we are smart enough to take whatever is said with a grain of salt, and to look for the truth.

If they are a known user of an exploit...there is no reason to protect them...and if it is NOT proven an exploit, no one will think they are exploiting. Naming people who exploit or naming people that post shady actions hoping to get someone to bid their whole ped card, or hoping to get free cld's DOES NOT HURT ANYONE THAT MATTERS.

Correct:

Forum Rules said:
5.5 - Trading Thread Abuse
Off-topic posts made in Trading threads are NOT permitted. The only posts permitted in Trading threads are the following:
  • Bids
  • Offers
  • Requests to the thread starter for additional information directly related to item or service offered
  • Requests to the thread starter for additional information regarding the auction/bidding/offer procedure
  • Retraction of a Bid or Offer
  • Threadstarter reply to one of the above

Any posts that do not fit one of the above categories will be deleted without notice. If you wish to discuss the market value of an item or service, please create a thread in one of the following forums: Items, Price Check or General Economy Discussion, as appropriate. Any member found to frequently ignore or abuse this rule risks permanently losing all posting privileges in the Trading section.
Rule 5.5 is a perfect example of a rule that evolved over time to address behavior that repeatedly disrupted the forum.

Before this rule was instituted, sales threads were constantly being hijacked by competing sellers, rival society members, nosy busybodies, etc. The moderators ended up spending huge portions of their time dealing with problems in the trading section, to the detriment of the primary forum discussion areas. Ultimately it was decided that only posts necessary to conduct a proper sales thread would be permitted in trading threads.

This change made it much more clear to members which types of posts are permitted in trading threads, and resulted in fewer "judgement calls" being required from the forum staff (and in turn fewer accusations of favoritism or unfair treatment leveled at the forum staff).

You can ask questions without going aggressive and bullying people with name calling. It's quite childish.

You can ask questions and talk about potential exploits. We all want those fixed if they exist. But when you get into name calling or making assertions about people in those threads or getting into this new society bashing forum pvp going on (which is actually making your soc look bad when it shouldn't be because you have some very nice people in it), you lose credibility and distracts from the original point of the thread to discuss whether or not something is intended or a major, game breaking issue.. never mind the fact that it is against the forum rules.

As to the specific threads, you can search for those created in the last couple of months. Disproven was added to the title.

Taco, did you bother to even read the opening post?

I hope your answer is no, since the alternative explanation is that you did read the opening post, where clear guidelines for discussion of PCF forum rules were presented, and you are simply choosing to completely ignore them.

In which case, you are not welcome to contribute since you are unwilling or unable to conduct yourself in a mature manner.

Let's examine your latest post:

Where did that happen, mr. know-it-all?
Posts containing unnecessary aggression, flaming or other immature content will be deleted without notice.

All of that text completely disregards the whole point of this thread, which I spelled out very clearly:

The purpose of this thread is to provide a centralized place for members and forum staff to discuss the rationale for and implementation of specific PCF Forum Rules.
It is not a place for you to bicker with other members.

I'll say it again, with emphasis on the work SPECIFIC:

The purpose of this thread is to provide a centralized place for members and forum staff to discuss the rationale for and implementation of specific PCF Forum Rules.

Yes, that was locked before the fix, and is yet another example of the disservice that is done by overzealous modding.

The rest of what you said is funny. Because now YOU are the one personally attacking me. Which is fine with me, I don't mind, but it shows how hypocritical you are because you are doing exactly what you claim to want to stop by having these super-restrictive forum rules.

Dont bother replying anymore. TBH, this stuff really just makes me hate the game now. You won't see me in game for a long time now. MA knows those guns were bugged, and you go lock threads and say "disproved". Well screw MA for not addressing the issue with us. You were wrong by closing that thread, you are wrong by not letting us show pms from people PROVING THAT BUG EXISTED, MA was wrong by not making a statement, and 5$ is wrong for being a hippopotamus.

DOn't reply...last post ever here.

THEN please remove his asinine hypocritical post about stuff from the past.
So let's see if I follow your logic:

1. Another member, in your sole opinion, violates the forum rules (or in this case, the guidelines provided in the opening post).
2. You have been, in your sole opinion, aggrieved, and therefore you are freed from the forum rules and can respond however you like.

Even if you are correct in your assessment of another member violating the forum rules, the proper course of action is to report the post to a moderator, not to escalate the problem by responding with personal attacks and further disrupting the discussion at hand, as you have done countless times here on PCF.

It's almost as if you believe the forum rules do not apply to you, or that you are justified in ignoring them whenever you feel someone has attacked you.

I sincerely believe a very lightly moderated forum is what is best for the community overall. <removed>

You'll notice on the forums of other MMOs, that there is sort of a "community moderation" feature. If a post receives enough downvotes, it no longer becomes visible (unless you choose to make it so). I'm a big fan of this feature and I think it subtly relieves the moderators from the necessity of over-vigilance.

Opening up a thread for the first time just to see easily a dozen or more posts moderated into oblivion is a horrible feeling. It's as though the community itself is at war with these forums.

IMO: All the rules are necessary, there's no need to change anything.
Most of them have long history, none of them was invented yesterday, and many have been improved over time by a team of very smart ppl. Yes, ppl and not gods, but ppl with much more experience and knowledge about forums than most of us.

Maybe not all of us (can't speak on behalf of everybody). I know I have never been a mod.
I have, however, been the Rebellious One. Not as charismatic as Taco perhaps, but otherwise very close. It was only a few years ago (a different forum, very similar rules thou).
If someone would have said to me back then I will calm down in the future and learn how to behave within this incredibly annoying set of rules... I would not have believed him. I would have thought what a lying smartass, I will never ever change!

And yet, here I am today, believing those rules are actually the best compromise between bad and worse.

Btw, I'm amazed how much latitude we all have been given here lately!
Keep up the good work, mods!
It's not easy I imagine... Hope u won't give up and won't get tired!
Respect!

I would like to know if this discussion has any chance of bringing about changes. Since it's been emphasized how long these rules exist and what they supposedly have achieved, seems rather they're considered cast in stone. The other issue is interpretation of what constitutes off-topic and everything else which triggers a deletion. However, so far nobody has been moved the slightest by any expression of opposition. Exercises in futility are one thing I really don't need any more of. So does it make sense to speak up?

Exactly what constitutes off-topic is something specific which I believe is relevant to this discussion thread. I don't believe you should need to quote the rule you mean here; I'm just following the thread discussion and see the relevance for myself.

On that note, I also think ZPF's post was very helpful, even if the OP may not think it is directly on topic.

I would add that I would hope people could form some kind of list with a weighted downvoting for their own personal ignore score. This comment is thus not about an existing rule, but about an alternative method I would like to see implemented. I hope people and the OP consider that my comment is relevant enough to wish it to stay here, ty :)

That may well work with some game forums, however given the level of 'forum pvp' we already see here on PCF, I believe that this sort of 'voting' feature would result in significant abuse.

This is why I would hope an additional functionality of personally weighting others' thumbs ups and downs might make results tuned to personal preference, regardless or even especially if there is 'forum pvp' going on.
Maybe a bit much of a difficult 'ask' about how forums could work, but still worth mentioning I think.

Edit: Thanks Serica for your answer directly below. Sometimes platforms and apps don't work well due to a lack of flexibility and how things can be implemented. Maybe an area of future development to help forums perform better, given the imperfections of group communication :)
