Just a fun idea.

Some time ago MA ditched the oranges in favour of the more startrek like one pieces but the Oranges or OJ's as they used to be known were such a fundamental part of Project Entropia's history, I thought it would be a fun homage to bring them back in cryengine and give everyone a 3 piece set (top, pants, shoes) but, instead of using the old vu9 (I think?) version, go back to the original and make something that as closely follows that design (i.e. with the thick black trim and original pattern) as possible. Might be fun to release a special version of the Settler armour set too that also looks as close to the original as possible. i.e.

That would be hella nostalgic. I remember when I logged in for the very first time I had no idea my OJ's weren't bright orange because they were at min TT

I am certainly a fan of many things nostalgic, but I must admit that this specific item was always standing out as a negative one to me. They look like prison suits! And assuming they were part of the oldest designs in the game which go back to even before the beginning of this century, the real orange suits were then made prominent in increasingly horrible scenarios hitting screens around the world. In many places this was carefully kept away from the mainstream consumer, but those who were interested in what really happens would find them. Hence this, my personal view, is shaped by experiences not everybody has. For a time I was doing translations for such videos, which was probably not good for mental health but the task was of greater importance. So I was eventually motivated enough to petition for a change in our game. I know how this is controversial (changing an item rooted in one's culture because of later events) and hoped to be able to justify the case in a public discussion here on the forum, but the former moderation regime didn't permit it. So I was left with sending it to support and never heard of it again... until the change actually happened much later. I can only assume that more players must have requested it.

I don't want to torpedo OP's suggestion though, I totally sympathize with the motivation. I only hope that if the orange colonist outfit returns, taking it up will be voluntary. You will forgive me though that I continue to view it in line with a few items of truly bad taste, of which there are not many but they do stick out like a sore finger. This view is not caused, only intensified by the mentioned real-world horrors. That I chose to burn them into my memory is nobody else's fault. If this is the opinion of a single person, then it's of course not significant. Thank you for understanding.

BRING BACK THE OJs!!!!!

There was sooo much of the game back then based on OJs! All nubs were called OJs, not nubs! It gave a great unique aspect to this game that no other games had! Every new player should start out with the orange clothes! For so many more reasons, but the basic OJs should have definitely stayed! Was a bad change IMO!

Was the orange cloths meant to be jail cloths and all prisoners had to explore and die on the new planet? :D

nope, every new avatar started with a fee pair of Orange Cloths. They could keep it or even sell it but since new players didn't know how to take cloths off they would be easily seen as new players. I'm still a nub but I used to run around bootable PVP in my OJs and when someone had seen me they would think easy kill and I would pwn them! :D Good old days!!!

Yeah, nothing beat the frsh off the boat feeling. Hope we experience this again now with UE5 and new enviroment and gears!

God damn sexy human beings, especially Jenna Jameson in the background, I never had a chance to meet a Porn Star, but I keep my fingers crossed!

oh yes of course! I forgot they did that. Was a bit of poor move I feel. It really wouldn't have killed them to give people full value on the OJ's when the decay on clothes was introduced.

Uh... OK I respect the way in which you presented this. That's fair and decent but I have to admit I was really hoping no one would mention this, or concern themselves with it any more. I remember talk of it at the time and my feeling was it was a case of letting the bad guys ruin things for everyone else, crossed with some people being too sensitive and unable to separate a game from reality in their heads. I appreciate it would be disturbing for anyone who, by choice or otherwise looked up certain horrible acts online to be reminded of what they can't un-see but, as already mentioned, that's the individual's lookout and something they shouldn't hoist on anyone else ideally.

That's just my opinion though and I'm sure other's views would vary. I feel it's a slippery slope though. Not to straw man the argument but one has to ask where does one stop with removing things that upset a certain minority of people? There is a surely a line we need to put down somewhere where the advice is for folks who don't like it to go touch grass as the Zedders say or, if that doesn't help, therapy can be really good from my experience.

No. I don't know for sure but, I have a feeling it was something like Orange being a colour with national significance in Sweden? Or am I thinking of a different country? Sure I was somewhere like Sweden once and there was something going on where everyone was wearing orange hats? (I really might be thinking of somewhere else though)

Took a bit of digging, this is a picture of me with the "Booth Babes" at the Entropia Convention in LV back in 2006! Bring back the OJs!!!!

I wonder what happened to that giant background mural... yeh having the promoters in the OJ's (albeit modified ones) was kinda fun. They certainly stood out I imagine!

You are right, this was the weak part of the case I tried to make, and it was already addressed back then by someone I highly respect. It was just not permitted to be discussed to the point where it could become clear that the majority thought this or that way. I mentioned above that the association of this design with an unpleasant real-world counterpart struck me already before it got this serious and wondered if this was originally intended or not. I may have missed something or don't remember, was there any story or lore published that mentioned the colonization of Calypso implied expatriating undesirables? Not an unusual theme in science fiction.

Anyhow, I do support and hope you get your wish. I'd only prefer it to be a choice. In general, back to the roots of a much-loved design is a good thing and the coming change is the ideal occasion.

Thanks for the measured and balanced response and for what it's worth, sorry you were not able to have a frank discussion about it properly at the time. Glad we've got away with it (albeit guardedly) this time around.

As for implementation, oh 100% a choice. Not even suggesting a revert to the old OJ's for new players, simply a set of OJ's (styled on the original 3 clothing items - top, pants/trousers and shoes) for Christmas presents or something in the TWEN year might make for a good laugh (maybe throw in an orange Christmas hat too for good seasonal measure - I don't think they exist yet?).

As for the OJ's, or anything some people might associated them with, being featured in the original story,... no nothing like that in my recollection at least. As far as I remember folks wanted to go to Calypso but there was nothing about who those folks were or why they wanted to go I don't think.

There was something about there being something of a deadline for colonisation by the finding company though. IIRC it was something like Omegaton had the ownership (or contract?) on the oddyseus probe that found the system, and as "finders" they were given 10 years to exploit the resource (colonise it) before it was turned over to "more capable" folk. If I remember right, no one expected Omegaton to pull it off in the slightest (they were kinda small?) then almost out of nowhere on the 11th hour they unveiled their colonisation ship that would take people to Calypso and everyone else was like "whaaaaaaaaaaaat? how the in the heck?".

I seem to remember there might have been some shady dealings going on at Omegaton to pull it off? My memory of the original story is a little hazy now so indeed happy to be corrected on any of these details. I loved the old story. It was great and I've always lamented MA not exploiting it more than they do.

I do note that the story got re-done/simplified/adjusted at some stage... so I should be clear I'm talking about the very original version written by Marco Behrman. The one that was about 20 pages longor something.
