Newly Discovered Moon to be Auctioned

Ok, think of it as a moon that once went around a planet but they fell out and got divorced. Moons and planets have a right to get divorced as well you know :)

Especially this moon which appears to be a "wicked" moon. I mean which planet would want to even go near such evil :eyecrazy:

lol i'm losing track here now lol
i'd thought a moon that gets disconnected from the planet it was at , would then become a planet of it's own.
but owke i'm fine with it lol.

was only wondering as I got in a discussion about it with a few others outside this game.
and they like ......... huh a moon with no planet ? so yah definition of moon is a planetary item that is orbiting a planet so I thought if planet would be gone the moon would automatically become planet on it self.

but i'm fine with all.
was just me spinning my mind lol

cheers Qs

I suspect you are absolutely correct my friend, and since the mini-PP/Marketing Agreement seems to be the direction that MA is headed now

what i dont understand is why MA doesnt realise what it has lost by not hiring professionals to do the job of marketing their product, and have not learnt the lesson of the PP's they chose, which is that its even more costly to let amateurs play at being game designers and marketeers than it is to do the job oneself.
proper marketing of your product costs, it costs about 10% of gross, year in year out, and if you are just starting out, it costs 10% of the gross revenue you hope to achieve, just to start out, and considering the image MA has i think that "just starting out" is where they are at PR wise, if not worse.
i dont want to be pessimistic but is there any information to suggest that "team monria" is going to be any different and has within it the capacity to replace the business standard that is "10% of gross spent on a professional team of advertisers"?

Just because we have had some bad apples in the past does not mean the new ones will be the same.

I'm still hopeful of Cyrene, Toulan and Monria. Each of these newer ones will have their own challenges but will eventually launch.

Cyrene has a head start on Toulan and Monria and is slowly getting their planet in shape. Once they launch hopefully they will market their own planet.

Toulan we know little about and so far looks the most professional of them all. This could be the hidden gem amongst PP's. The fact that we don't know much about it is a very good sign, shows to me they are focused on external players. One of their interviews seemed to confirm this to me. In some ways this company seems to be far ahead of their competitors in outlook and professionalism e.g. the focus on women developers developing Toulan.

Monria has a varied and strong set of players who have taken the "developer" role. Together this small team is likely to achieve a lot. Their idea of basing the moon around call of cthulhu is far superior than any suggestion by the whole of the player base on this thread. Which proves my earlier point they need not make the same mistakes. Their idea of basing it on call of cthulhu is clever and forms a good basis for creativity that far surpasses other PP's put together (excluding calypso ofc which will remain the best ;) ). In short they are sitting on a gold mine. They have a strong idea that if they develop well and market well is likely to be a big success story. MA have devised the moon around marketing. So hopefully this team will indeed be focused on external marketing. Which will benefit them and the platform.

i agree with your whole post, what troubles me well actually upsets me, are the 3 youtube video's on youtube from Monria. I love lore and flavour and I know that flavour sucks players in, the 3 video's however are ill executed. Nothing in is appealing, no eye candy, the voice sounds dull, its not doing it for me.
And if that will be a standard then its pretty sad. Voice acting is a skill, eye candy is important... A free video on a site (100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute) is well lost in the void without backing up with some good tags at least.

Listed as monria, need to scroll to find it. With monria mmo. 0 hits, thats a pure marketing fail in my perspective.
I do not believe in the proffesionality the crew brings, though they might make a nice narrative design. But thats just a small part of a game (important but small)

Im just like omg you bought this chance, dont screw it:eyecrazy:

You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

Monria will be build by MA. Its release is scheduled for October. But with all the mess around last VU I'm afraid they will postpone it.

Hey guys, I don't know where the idea came from, but the moon manager is NOT the "new marketing manager" of mindark.

The moon manager has an incentive to market the moon, but no incentive to market other parts of entropia universe.

Very well said! I also hope very much for their success, but watched one video, which was actually basically a soundtrack narration. The speaker had potential ... not an absolute amateur, but I didn't feel he did a good job. It was screaming for what a director can do, to try and get the best out of actors, narrator etc.
It shouldn't have passed quality control the way it was - and I imagine this video had absolutely nothing to do with MA - so no excuses from the direction we know so well!

That's the problem with selling stuff like this.... Let's face it... Akoz... Quetesh... WHOEVER he is today... doesn't do much with his LA's to begin with.. and when he does do a huge event he ends up NOT giving out the prizes as advertises. Squall... well he just kills off DNA for miners...

Monria's gonna be an epic fail. It'll be booming for the first few mths while ppl grind new missions... but after that it'll be dead... like hunting on FOMA.... DEAD cuz no-one wants to do anything with the domes so they empty em' for mining....

Menace

Indirectly moon manager is marketing Entropia Universe even the the planets that do not deserve it because he will be introducing external players to Entropia Universe. Some other PP's as we know are mainly focused on internal marketing.

So what is likely to happen is moon manager will bring in players and these older PP's will continue to be parasites except not just from the Calypso playerbase but from the moon as well.

I hope you are right, but I'm with menace on this. There will probably be some unique high level mobs, and the moon will parasite off the planets.

I hope it wont ,
but I think it will indaad become a failure aswell.
Akoz "investment group" has had or still has medusa ....... it's a different "investment group"
but all they do is ............. well ..............hummm................... completely nothing at all.
Why ?
I think they get bored really fast.
The "investment group" he has now for this moon is at least 66.666666666 % made out of medusa owners.
so at this moment my hope is on Mikass the make it run.

though those 3 movies that aint movies but just story telling .... already broke my hope.
I think it will be becoming a Epic fail, that already because I don't think they have the resources to actually promote it and keep people interested nor the funds to make commerce to the outside, it will just be a planet like sucking the resources out of the existing player base.
but I really hope akoz squalx and mikass will prove me wrong I really do.

That is insane and stupid use of youtube. Making text posts of these if they cant do anything animated (like Arkadia did) would have been much much better.

Some of you might not be aware but Youtube is widely used for podcasts and audiobooks, not just for animated videos. http://www.youtube.com/user/GreatestAudioBooks http://www.youtube.com/user/audiobooksfree

It's an interesting alternative to plain audio cloud hosting like Soundcloud because it's easier to share content as thumbnail on Facebook, Twitter, forums and so on. Also, lots of people have Google accounts and can easily subscribe to a Youtube channel.

You may to story and lore all you want; but just like the grinding halls; it will just end up a place where miners can get swirlies; only untaxed unlike FOMA or HELL.
And let's face it; miners will bring in the most for the longest of time; while at first some curious hunters will come and do the missons. In the end all Monria will be is a place for miners.
cause rly, 5% less tax is really enough of a difference to make hell and foma ghost towns.

If I owned the moon, I'dd just call it "te olde quarry of riches", make it mobless and try to fill the shops and auctions with cheap amps.
You don't need avertising; frigging around with mob designs and other crap. Squall can mine the domes with his UL to spam the global chat with "found at Monria".

Now, I know that the moon owners are all like happy and try to make a nice place and cool stuff; but it will get boring and in the end only swirlie hungry miners will come.

my tip of the day is; focus on miners, make sure there is safe transport. try to get a few traders from Foma to come over. If you have a MS, just give them discount warp trips or so; and make the economy boom.

just my :twocents: ofc

Sorry, but that's the lamest argument I have ever read. If you're aren't artist or you're not into marketing, that's fine, but no need to excuses like these.

Although, I think you will hit it big with Monria. Not because I like concept art (which I don't btw) or because gameplay or concept would be outstanding, but because you will be 100% supported by Mindark and you're not so bad at "PP business". So, please prove me wrong and make something good for us, players.

If you want cool advertising; there are people streaming and youtubing their mining (yeah, sounds as boring as it is basically). You could try to lure them over and do the infortisment for you. You know, purswade one of them with cheap MU lvl13 amps (or whatever akoz can craft or so).

Or you can hold a competition to the community that the person that video captures and posts the highest loot video on youtube gets a prize or something. And state as a rule that they must have an intro or outro with the monria logo and some info to lure players in.

You know, don't try to do the boring stuff like making your own advertisement. I don't look at the crap pro game studios show of for games. Most games I played and bought are things I watched ppl play on youtube.
It made me buy and play games like Dark Souls, mount and blade and such, which are relatively unknown games, but actually quite good. I'dd never would have known them if not for Youtube.

bottomline, let the players do the work for you; it will add more visibility than any video you ever make; even if you make something of a pro game studio quality.

I'm a fan of audio stories, including audio books, so I don't need to watch anything if the listening captures my interest. I also think Youtube is fine as a medium too; it's just that listening to the one link didn't attract me. Of course I don't know how it came together, but it fell a long way short in my opinion (and I want Monria to succeed!). Yes, getting pure narrative right can be VERY difficult - I DO know that!

On the other topics mentioned, this is how I understand it:
The moon deal setup does reward well for bringing new people in, even if they then go to the planets. I believe this is firmly understood by the ownership team. The starter setup will be enough to get people attracted to EU as a whole, but cannot provide the variety of full planets. As far as I know, it is fully expected that people who like Monria but are new to EU will migrate away to the planets after a newbie period. In return, Monria does hope to attract more specialised EU participants with most of what it has to offer in the domes, yes.

That seems fine to me, but it's a question of balance. I'm just hoping the advertising effect will draw in many new players.... which is why I wrote my earlier criticism. I DO wish you well!

It wasn't an excuse. I was merely pointing out easily verifiable facts regarding the use of Youtube as a medium for audiobooks and podcasts.

Concept is not aimed at those who fancy a pure Sci-Fi theme but more towards the Horror/Thriller crowd. Some of the best things in life are an acquired taste, so you may end up liking it eventually. :)

Having an audiobook version of the story can provide an interesting alternative to those who don't feel like reading through dozens of pages of text. In our case, the story author is also the narrator, which is very common in case of audio books. See examples such as Adventure Capitalist by Jim Rogers, narrated by Jim Rogers and many others. Amazon has a special section for such books http://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?ie=UTF8&docId=1000533741
Performed by the Author

It's often been said that books are like babies to their authors—painstakingly labored, eagerly awaited, and more often than not, misunderstood. But for authors who narrate their own books, the chance arises for them to reclaim their stories—to tell the story they intended to tell, to paint their characters in glorious technicolor, and to drive home the lessons they've learned—with tone and pacing that give right meaning to their words
.

That being said, a professional voice actor can bring something extra to the table and may create a more vibrant atmosphere but could also spoil somewhat the author's intentions and authenticity.

The text version of the chapters released so far can be found here.

I did not know that and will certainly check some, I like audio books.
Btw did you know
?monria + podcast = 0 results
?monria + audiobook = 0 results

So I'll take the freedom of rewriting your reply:

After seeing the comments about the uploaded video's I would like to add that youtube is also being used for podcasts and audiobooks. Not that we are aiming on writing a novel for any target audiance, for us this is just a small step in getting involved with narrative and the like.
Although the comments were a bit harsh for me to take in, I feel being attacked, I am however totally convident in myself and the team that we are heading the right way, and so I will not 'defend' or tackle any issues being adressed here. Just wanted to add some info on the youtube part
Ce end

If its not something like this, I feel being pissed over and thats ok, all comments are very valluable yet not being vallueated.. Be happy people critisize, they think with you not against

An it feels pretty lame to make a 'lecturing' comment like this because you know already im
geussing

(Edit)
I see you have posted before me, havent read, will do and see if i need to edit or change my tone, first few lines i agreed, you are not stupid i know that

mikass

I have set all hopes on you.
and I think you will do great.

akoz and squalxx will need to prove them selves though.
I hold them responsible of screwing up medusa by doing totally nothing.
and I hope its going to be a great place soon with ofcourse a lot of travel.

it will make RT a bit closer as well so that there might be more people be going to RT as well.
that being said , if the new moon will be placed where the ring on the map is now located.

regards , Qs

To lighten the mood and maybe provide a comparison of sorts, there are some episodes of the classic Red Dwarf that were never filmed. Chris Barrie has done audio versions of these scripts and played all the characters himself.
Here's part one of one of these episodes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZujf5zxw58

Things to note:
The number of views (so far) is staggeringly low given how long it has been online!!! There is a massive fan-base for Red Dwarf and I can only imagine that they simply do not know that these exist. This should be tackled so much better in the case of Monria.

It doesn't harm to have the cartoon drawings along the video track, but does involve extra work obviously.

If I remember from another part, there is a comment that the voice of 'Rimmer' is not done so well, which is a real ROFL, as that is who Chris Barrie actually plays. It is the other characters who he is impersonating (extremely well). However, there were indeed points where I thought the Rimmer voice was poor, which really made me wonder about how the senses and perception change when just listening to something.

I have heard authors read their own work both extremely well and fairly badly (in my opinion). I think it is probably more important that the audience likes something than an author liking his own middling performance!

Anyway, I hope you all like this - yes, trying to be positive with my criticism of course!
