The Future of Planet Calypso

Was a long post but this is also one of the more troubeling things you wrote about.

Like the ATH's witch costs all player a bit to give it to one person.

PS: If I would loot such a +150K Ped Markup item or even a bigger one I would totally agree it was a good thing MA introduced, if on the other side I'm again for the xth time in 5 years a spender and paied once again for the profit of a small group of LA-Owners lucky Avatars with regular Profit in ATH's or Markup items I would be once again pissed off by the give profit to a few an let all pay for it (privatisation of the profit and socialisation of the costs or same as in real live where bankers who gave the normal people billions of US$ in losses to be paied with our tax money and still earning millions of US$ in bonus for their bad work)

It's also one of the dumbest things he's ever said, and that's saying something.

Btw folks, it doesn't take a genius to buy a MM, chip in a shitload of skills and then go shoot it a lot. Keep that in mind...

Wow, people, MA already set like 4 ETAs allready... why should this one work out?

Marco posts something and everyone is wetting their pants... lol, u guys still think that he's your friend and all...
Its his job to post this stuff, and I see everyone kissing his asscheeks for it.

ITS HIS JOB FFS

I'll believe it when I see it.. That's all I have to say

Thanks for update. Lets go hunting now :)

myeah but this is the first time they have set up a timetable instead of just a date for "hopefully the releasedate"

Wow... 12 pages of disbelief and lack of trust towards FPC/MA and NO ONE from FPC/MA has jumped in to do damage control...... I guess it's evident that they really don't care. :(

Maybe it's finally evident to them just like every other game, no matter what they do, people will whine, cry, and complain.

The time for talk has passed. I can no longer get excited about CryEngine news updates because every one of them keeps pushing back the release date.

Release all the statements you want, but you now have until around Sept. 19th of 2009...which is technically "the end of summer" to get it done...or the news release you do in two months will push it back to fall '09. You think I'm kidding? Search back through all of your press releases...and tell me if you don't see a pattern.

Write less statements and more code....:whip::whip::whip:

Actually, if they delay long enough, CryEngine2 will be obsolete, and they can buy more time by saying they have to upgrade to CE3.

yes i agree that last comment was totally daft, got carried away with the typing, but i was talking about the majority of the countrie's summer.

...and he never said it was summer on the northern hemisphere...if it's the Aussie summer, he could have even more time.

I think summer on some of the outer planets is years long...;)

Well ... if u put urself in the skin of a noob now, or let say a frech 6 month/one year noob, u will see this potential upgrade as a "cool" and "awesome" thing.

Most of the vets here, more than 3.5 or 4 years ingame, was habituated to a totaly different game play, let say that the game was realy different. Vets was here durring a very large and extneded period of changes ingame, and some can be proud to have resisted and adapted.

The problem is understandable and i think that MA "try" to be gentle with both parts, vet & noob. Its a virtualy generational and interesting problem:) must be studied at school.

4 year vet here. If I had to start over again today from fresh off the ship at PA....Hell, I wouldn't even bother.

We have a forum member called Pluto don't we? Or it might be another forum - anyway, let's get some confirmation on this. Oh.... wait... Pluto is no longer a planet.

Oops, nvm. :D

(Sorry, carry on - didn't mean to sidetrack the topic.)

@Hulyss - :scratch2: Hmm, 'generational'?? Even 'virtually generational' would be a stretch. I think that PE/EU/MA/FPC is still undergoing changes and transformations virtually non-stop since the beginning. [Which was not really nor virtually 40 years ago.]

When the summer sun shines on "the 7th planet" :D
Really like what that planet means in english :D

I read something about "Special Loots" - I've been getting LOADS of those!
Nice 65% avg returns for many months now. Very "special" in comparison with a soc mate who seems to profit on anything :scratch2:

You either have it, or you don't, as they say ;)

one question

IMO most interesting part from that statement:

"MindArk has been highly focused the last year with the integration of the licensed CryENGINE2 into the Entropia Platform. As with most major software development a huge amount of effort and time has been put in the project and MindArk recently entered what is commonly known as “crunch time” – the last stage of a development cycle. Our internal deadline for the final test phase of VU 10.0 is set in late May 2009. Depending of the evaluation during this test period we could expect a public release during the summer."

As i understand that "final test phase" will be like "closed beta". So - how MA will carry out that stage? Usually devs need a lot of feedback to clean up ingame bugs and such.
Will MA give out some (limited amount ofc.) "tickets" to players who wish participate in beta? Or that "test phase" will be carry out inside MA (by MA employees)?

As with every VU, let the customer test it and pay for it.

If they find a bug they will report or if it is a bug where they would profit and he did not tell it to MA bann him and shut down EU to correct it, but only if it costs MA money if not let it in EU until next VU and add this bug to the list of sometimes reimplemented bugs for money skimming at a later time.

They will not give any "ticket". Accepting any player into a closed beta will give them knowledge of new features allowing them to have an advantage on other regular players. As we are playing with real money, MA can not take that risk.

When MA asked some of us to "beta test" the french, german and spanish versions of the game we did it on the "live" server between two VU's.

The test phase will be done by MA internals (and also by all of us when VU10.0 is live :D)

aha! thx.
"and also by all of us when VU10.0 is live :D" - i be afraid that:rolleyes:

What they know:
- They have almost finished developments
- They will soon start the tests

What they think:
- Tests will be performed in 2 to 4 months

What I know:
- Take any development project, split it in 3 parts:
a) Specification requirements
b) Devlopment & Unit-testing
c) UAT (User Acceptance Tests) & Deployment
- These three parts have aproximatively same charge (in m/d), and same duration.

What I think:
- Even if dev are over, release is not soon.

What we hope (MA, you & me):
- We all hope I am wrong because we need this VU 10.0 soon

Depending on the MA management though Quality Assurance and UAT can be just a laugh. I don't think that will be the case but speaking from QA experience. The time for testing can be short which will cause possible defects to get through. I have seen that the more time that is used for testing the less amount of defects to get through the process. In many ways the UAT process can just be an overview of the items that are going to be put into the new VU,

Lets hope that the process and standards are adhered to.

Somehow the Golden Age makes me think of the Red Banana’s we spent a fortune hunting for in that ridiculous war.

Yes, and we got a red banana.... just not in loot.

Yes, and we got a red banana.... just not in loot.

 I was wondering why you were running awkwardly for a few weeks after the new year.

Golden Age hype rubbish aside, personally I feel Calypso will get back onto its feet within a couple of years once VU10 hits.

By this I mean, be a truely worthy service to be involved with.

Though this is going to take time.

I will be sorely disappointed if Marco tries to rush to bash out a patch-quilt once he has his full development resources back in an attempt to manage the environment rather than providing real improvements of substance for the 'real RCE' and 'entertainment' aspects of Calypso.

Actually I would be rather pissed off.

Rushing to get things back upto speed is the perfect recipe for mistakes that lead to a further negative and potentially damaging effect.

I personally feel Marco needs to go back to the board of directors and ask for an offset to slowly inject into the Calypso economy over time to help keep the feasibility of participation afloat while work is underway to improve Calypso.

It is the least they can agree to doing after 3 years of serious neglect and strain placed on Calypso to drive the expansion of the MindArk group of companies.

The CE2 overhaul was not by choice for planet Calypso.
It was a necessary agreed to step by MindArk in collaboration with the platform partners.

The 'Golden Age' with nice looted items that may be worth something one day down the track is all good and fine and will generate interest;

Though generating interest is only half the equation, especially if their is little fiscal feasibility attached to retain this interest over the longer term.

The majority of the community have been losing their arses off to the point they have little left to sit down to, to enjoy Entropia.

A proper ROI paid back from the MindArk board (Cold hard PED/Equity, not a mere bashing out of nice loot items code or skill bonuses which impact on internal economy skill value) distributed back per capita over contributed earnings (With a small portion to be set aside for numerous treasures) would be a good start to getting things properly underway again and redeeming the environment back into a fiscally sound one again over time.

It is quite a worrying and disheartening sight to see it in such a feeble and violate state present-day.

It is all about confidence,

Marco well knows this as does the FPC team. I hope the board of directors can take a moment out of their busy days to reflect on the above bolded.

Please do not turn a blind eye to that which got you to where you are today.
It would be like neglecting your own child/family in the real world.

its a real shame to read those posts, and must be very dis hearting to MA who have put a lot of time and investment into entropia... a lot of people seam to play entropia all day then moan about MA and entropia all night...

Lol i love this quote :yay:

I've been contemplating the consequences of this for a while now.. and I must say, I'm pretty worried for the ubers.
Those "investments" in those uber items could very well be on the line.

One of the best posts I've seen in EF.

i like it maybe get new stuff ingame.

After all the buildup and waiting, it better do more than just add a bit of new stuff. ;)

May is approaching quickly and I am sure everyone at FPC is working hard to make sure they keep the date, right guys?

...guys?

:D

Cheers :beerchug:
