Jazz bands can be nice :)
There are so many instruments out there, none of them fits?

My daughter's only 5. She wants to try everything and gets bored. My son has recorder class in the 5th grade. Mandatory that they learn to read music so when middle school comes and they are interested in joining the band, they already know how to read. Not interested at all! Although he's liking guitar hero and rockband lol!

I don't play anything anymore except the odd thing for fun but in the past I have played, had lessons, or self taught myself the following, some to Grade 8:

Clarinet
Piano
Flute & Piccolo
Guitar
All types of Recorders
Violin
French Horn
Oboe

Now, if I could only have my one big wish..

to be able to sing :(

I've played guitar for 16 years or so. The last few years I would consider myself more of a amateur songwriter than a guitarist.

While we are on the subject... I have been looking to find and old fellow entropians band that was posted on here some time ago. I really dug their music but have since lost the tracks he shared :( I THINK his username started with an S, his band name started with an M, he was the drummer, and their music reminded me a bit like Blink 182 if that helps... any takers

Guitar..Acoustic and Electric 7 years now...3 beautiful guitars..Fender.
Cant play like I want to..
But I try...:)

Instrument: guitar (mostly classical, but have played on other than nylon aswell)
How long: 10 years
Name/Nick: Lugzan

on top of those 10, last 5 years passive so, kind of rusty right now =)

P.S. last piece I studied was a good old favourite from Steve Howe (link : the second piece which starts at 4:50), but I did not yet get it to perfection sadly =) the first piece is also very good but not my cup of tea exactly - too far from classical :D by the way, that clip seems to be the rip which I made several years ago from the VHS, I am quite sure it's the same one, and it got spread somehow...

Anyone know of a good FREE downloadable prog that acts as a basic several-track studio? Want to record guitar/vocals/bass at home, preferably with a programmable drum machine to add in too:)

I know I'll need a mic on the day.... what else do I need?

7-string eh... don't think I've seen one of those before. Do you use standard tuning with a low B string added?

Exactly.

Mostly used to play KoRn and bands that use baritone.

Unfortunately hard time at Polytechnic - not as much time as I'd like to play (both EU and guitar), finish my EU-website and stuff... Skills dropping :( But hey! The *session'll be over in 1 week from now! :)

*Dunno if you got this. Session is a time where you have lots of exams (whole semester and all classes).

You can try Reaper. Its a sound prog VST compatible. It can be a good alternative to Cubase/protools.

http://www.cockos.com/reaper/index.php you get an evaluation for 30 days, otherwise its 60$

Here are earlier version of Reaper, its free : http://reaper.brothersoft.com/

Otherwise, there's still Audacity : http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

You should need a sound card to record. It depends if you want to do a live recording or RE-recording to know how many tracks you need. I suggest you to look around at Edirol (Fa66,FA-101) M-audio (Fast track USB, Firewire 410) or why not digidesign (M-box).
Concerning a good mike, i can recommand for sure the Mxl, or the studio project series. cheap and awesome.
