"Gerhard shows his findings to Ross, who realizes that the seizures are getting more frequent. She explains that Benson is learning to initiate seizures involuntarily because the result of these seizures is a shock of pleasure, which leads to him having more frequent seizures. Ross checks on Benson, and discovers that, due to a clerical error, Benson has not been receiving his thorazine. She then finds out that Benson has escaped from the hospital"

Neurotransmitters all work in unison and imbalance in any of them affects mood, there are many neurotransmitters but from a working knowlege depletion of dopamine effects thought and perception more than mood and impacts upon seretonin to sustain stability in mood. Seretonin/ nor adrenaline maintains mood.
You are correct in some part, its quite a big picture.
Well yes ofc, there are a sum of factors that alter mood. In the case of addictions and not only, dopamine was proven to play significant role and in everyday tasks that give us sense of gratification.

Dopamine is closely associated with reward-seeking behaviors, such as approach, consumption, and addiction.[16] Recent researches suggest that the firing of dopaminergic neurons is a motivational substance as a consequence of reward-anticipation. This hypothesis is based on the evidence that, when a reward is greater than expected, the firing of certain dopaminergic neurons increases, which consequently increases desire or motivation towards the reward
Here in Entropia we can achieve such state with let`s say a hof, discovery, uber item, getting to 200hp etc

Quite good although Thioridazine has been banned in some countries due instances of sudden death syndrome, must be an old article, as is a lot of stuff on wikipedia:)
What is does strike me as odd is that Thioridazine is not an anticonvulsant but an antipsychotic and in fact quite the opposite it will lower the fit threshold leading to more fitting as many 1st order antipsychotic piperazine and piperidine chain antipsychotics do.

It's a very old novel...

But it "literally" speaks to many things involved in the complexites and nature of addiction processes... of course in terms known at the time... my clinical psych teacher suggested it for reading... I brough it up mainly because Mikass seemed to have ignored the negative even though it was to his credit presented...

Absolutely, and you are correct for the scope of artificial highs with drugs used to promote this i.e Alcohol, Cannabis , Psychostimulants such as Amphetamine.

When natural highs come into it adrenaline plays a big part for me and getting off the pontificantapproach taking down a mob I could not do ever before rushes that adrenalin thus reinforcing the need to do better. Add a layer of behavioural psychology being what is called ' variable differential reinforcement' i.e It only pays variably and is reinforced by the expectation of possible loot!
It is certainly akin to gambling but on factor releases it from that and that the ability to do stuff without spending peds.
It's a fine line but its close and it's amatter of personal choice, this platform allows for frank gambling but it also allows for the opposite and social channels/skill gains without spending cash.

:)

The term "addiction" is used in many contexts to describe an obsession, compulsion, or excessive psychological dependence, such as: drug addiction (e.g. alcoholism), video game addiction, crime, money, work addiction, compulsive overeating, problem gambling, computer addiction, nicotine addiction, pornography addiction, etc.

One should note that a drug addiction is a very different thing than a gambling addiction. Drug addiction is a physical and psychological issue, and is much more serious than a gambling addiction. Although some of the symptoms are similar the cravings for drugs like heroine are incredibly intense. Furthermore you can be addicted to heroine, even if you are psychologically opposed to drugs and don't like getting high. You can not be addicted to gambling if you hate the idea and act of gambling.

1) You can't be addicted to gambling if it's not gambling
2) More like gaming addiction maybe? Or "thinking it's gambling"-addiction? :silly2:

Drug addiction is a physical and psychological issue, and is much more serious than a gambling addiction.
The act of thinking changes the paths that neurons flow in your brain. Sometimes that results in chemical changes in your body. Sometimes you can get addicted to these changes, which can be both physical and psychological.

Its like telling a heroinist "just don't buy any heroin" but at the same time put a heroin vending machine outside his house...
a vending machine ?
damn lol.

better stick a used needle in their arm so we know we'll get rid of them a bit sooner.
better even a used needle with an overdose.
lets call that rapid response addiction care. :silly2:

sorry bit off topic.

but what i mean to say is if u use this drug then u have the risk to die.

with spending money u dont have u have the risk of losing ur normal life and all u have will be taken away from u.

it's plain simple even some one without a brain know's that.
why do there allways have to be people who wants to allway's care about other people who fuck up thing's their whole life.
let them learn it the hard way, this way they might actualy learn something from it.
though they might get homeless , abbandoned , put at the sidewalk or under a bridge.
hell what do i care ............. why am i actualy writing a reply ?

hmmmzzz .....

oh yah i wanted to say stick a used needle in their arm and get them disposed off a bit sooner instead of the time it normally take's

i know i have no heart , and i'm really a sarcastic prick.
even my sig say's so

Naaah :D Poker is just about bleffing and veeery well know about the game and your oponents other side the table ;)
You will never loose in poker if you are master of your self at poker table by bleffing ;)

Another toght! :D
GL ! :D
Thats the tough part.... and even the best players can lose :D... just the good players know how to read people and read actions....

Because in poker.... to have a winner there must be a loser.... to stay winner all the time is near impossible, because even in poker when you make the good call... like the other night I did... lady luck can still beat you.

Had K/2, buddy had A/9... flop was A/K/2... I went all in, I was short stacked... 4rth and 5th was 5/5.... sucked ass.... but it was a long shot for him to hit that.

omg  there we have a person who wants to decide things for other people.

why don't u go and become a politician.
people in this game that deposit are old enough to decide for them selves.
if they don't spend it in here they will most likely spend it elsewhere.
so let people do what they want.
and don't stick ur nose in other mature people's thing's.

there are no little depositing kid's here that need u taking care of them.

sorry but i just had to say it, launguage vomit was coming up
Well... gambling addiction is big.... it can ruin lives and it can ruin others lives if the gambler is responsible for others... should we feel bad for them? Maybe, maybe not... to each their own right? What about handicap people? Should we feel bad for them? Meh... What about drug addicts? Nah....

I haven't done any research on what causes addiction to gambling... so I cant say if its just random, someones own fault, or hereditary... I dont know...

Myself I would rather say fuck em... same with drug addicts.... but a simple warning message would go a long way... instead of talking of the great stuff that MA always does... admit that this game cost money... this game will generally take your money away when you attempt to do anything in this game.... generally you will get less money back then you put into the system... and the big payout will by most cases never hit you....

1) You can't be addicted to gambling if it's not gambling
2) More like gaming addiction maybe? Or "thinking it's gambling"-addiction? :silly2:
1) Dont deny this isn't game isn't some form or alteration of gambling... if it isn't... it sure as hell can appeal to gamblers.... if we made a slot machine have a few extra handles and involve a bit more interaction... would it be gambling? Or would it just be a simple game?

2) Game generally involves upfront purchase and play time... or flat costs.... with EU costs can be unlimited... depends on what you do... the game takes in money and will pay out money... generally it keeps money and will then reward few people will big payouts... if you cant see this as gambling then you need to get examined.... To any normal person looking in on this game can see its a flashy way to gamble... sure you dont have to gamble.... nore do you have to spend a lot.... but generally your attempting to mine/hunt/craft at right times and right areas to get more back then you put in....

This is soo full of crap
Who are you to judge wheter what is more severe? Addiction is severe when your real life suffers from it. The severety is not meassured by the substance but by the "amount" that disrups your life.

You can be addicted to drugs and still able to work, some gamblers are homeless and cut of society.
Heroine how ever is a physical real killer that is servere in any form, do not ever try that.

Just do not judge others, it makes you look foolish and not to be taken serious.

For me it is unknown how many addicted players are active in Entropia. If MA does not do anything to try to prevent real life damage to their clients I think MA will look bad.
It is not hard to "abuse" or trigger an addict, just say they HAVE to depo and that their efford will be rewarded and another depo is done.

In my perspective it is a bad way of doing business and give a handle of ruining peoples lives, instead you can also teach and inform people about the possible damage from addiction and give some text to think about. Give a handle to succeed in live as well.
Give some links to helping sites about addiction and gamblin
Tell the symptoms and if you recoqnise those you might get help with that.
Not every addicted client will see or say that they are.

Confront people with the facts and take care, don't help or close your eyes for a few lousy dollars. It will not pay in the end, perhaps not notable on your bankaccount. But I am sure that if you get several appreciation mails of peoples live turning to the better is more vallueble in the long run and can actually enrish your own live more than that new super car

Yes this is great stuff and predictive about the future power of video games, it has a broad range of concepts, social responsibilities for developers to consider as well as the induvidual's responsibilities !

Nice lecture video. I remember Marco talking about when all the planets fall together, and how online worlds would one day involve us going to work within a virtual world, having meetings, going out (within online world).. essentially using the virtual world as an extension to the real world.

But i still see that day to be quite far away. At least 40 years or so. Mainly because theres a common stereotype where people think that doing anything in a virtual world is just plain weird. I get that sort of tone when i try to introduce EU to my friends. They're like, "okaaay..." even though the fundementals of EU is to be a game. If i said stuff like, people 'go to work' in this game and socialize in this game... they'd be like, "would you like a psychiatrist?". So nowadays i just keep quiet about what i do ingame. They think i'm playing COD4 when on pc :D

As I read some threads here from ppl who are loosing lots of money - but can't afford that, I asked myself if there should be a necessary precaution for people who are pathological gambler.

What do u think about such a feature, implanted in the software?
MA would go bankrupt in 6 months withouth pathological gamblers.

They sleep well knowing that 2020 christmas bonus was funded by a guy who re-finaced his house.
