Over the last year or so I have noticed extremely low levels of forum use, apart from the bumped daily selling threads, weekly updated exchange threads acivity is kinda sad to see.

Just the same 20-40 people getting involved in threads.

Current saturday usage... Total: 96 (members: 26, guests: 70)

Would it not make more sense to just move over to Discord or something?

Has been this way for last year at least, probably longer.

Its because people have enough of it, they go away, then come back and so on. Vicious cycle, I am here to have a laugh, gamble, and call out bullshit when I see it. 😂😂😂

Remember this game isn’t big and the forum will be an even smaller community.

I’ve been playing wow recently and their forum, while still toxic as fk, has some good editions.

Best thing there is that in game profiles linked to forum so you can click and see players level and item lvl. You can then check the credibility of the comments.

That would be nice addition, link between forum ID and avatar name. 🤔

Not so sure about skill or gear info tho.

Know a few people who want to keep those private. 😅

real problem is the extremely low level of conversations.
if some silly idea pops in the Head... HeadBUTT of someone real hard to argument.
and many many topics have been deeply examined so just there is to read the older threads....

We've got 4k entropians on Discord, but it's about as slow on weekends.

There may be even more members here but albeit never logged in simultaneously. Most may be offline most of the time.

Anyway, one thing I dislike about discord is the quality of the info discussed can be low. A lot of the time it's just junk. So while there may be conversations going on a lot of the time most of the time it's not of interest to me. This is highly subjective and I appreciate some people just want to post emoji's, gifs etc. So to them it may be interesting...

With regard to the game when important things do come up there can be some useful discussion on here. When there isn't much to be said then activity will be low. It's good to know though the facility to communicate is there if and when needed.

The trade threads can be useful in their own right.

Yeh defo time of year should be factor but indeed I think @Svarog mostly nailed it with his reasons summary stated.

I've also been told (don't know if true) that a lot of stuff gets deleted leaving the forum full of sales posts. My informant claimed they'd be saving posts/threads that got removed haha they even told me one of my posts got deleted before I'd even realised myself (it had, and IMHO that was a lame move by the mods as IMHO it was a matter of opinion as to if it had gone OT but anyhow, not hear to complain - I don't care about this sort of thing anymore - MA be afraid ;-) - and besides there is probably a rule about complaining about mod decisions - very democratic XD).

Anyhow as the saying goes, other forum's are available (most of the time, although I'm sure a little more "footfall" would help with the maintainers' motivation) although I can't promise there will be any more and indeed likely less of an audience in those places.

Speaking of Discord. I checked in on the official one the other day, first time since... ah 2001? Was kinda sad to see another Swedish RCE scifi game I'd been following development progress on had spiraled down to being worked on by just one dev. Seems they came a cropper of a large re-write of things from UE4 to UE5 - not sure if that was necessary as a friend of mine who is big in game dev said often engine version upgrades are more about marketing than a fundamental difference. e.g. everything in cry engine is stll cryThing of something, no matter what version you are on.

Anyhow I really am digressing and going OT there (Spreads arms waiting for the firing squad). Imagine that, a conversation evolving in a topic... almost like a trip to a pub. Can't have that! Of course, people could choose to ignore and stay on topic, but we can't be giving people choices in such matters now. But yeh EU community stuff on Discord. I did see some activity while popping in Cyrene and indeed should maybe pop back and see what other stuff has shown up in the last week. The Calypso, or maybe it was the Entropia one, did seem to have a few people posting nothing but silly gifs without context or relevance. Not encouraging. Can't say I gave it a thorough real though.

Speaking of community. Are there any places these days IN GAME where folks just hang out and chat? I've been in a bit of late with the intention of mainly just doing that (e.g. while working so just as a side thing) but stuff has seemed kinda quiet in my usual spot (the rocks next to the Rookie robot instance on Caly). Even Rookie isn't that great. Seems to be largely dominated by something called Caly that I almost wondered if it was a bot given some to the random out of context stuff it seems to keep plonking in there. Probably a person though TBF. Ironically a LLM would actually produce more engaging conversation!

Anyhow lets see where this discussion goes. It's certainly an interesting topic

Weird additional thought on this. Some years ago I started work on something that would be a (very small) chat client the idea being a sorta light weight way for Entropian's to stay in touch without needing to use RL stuff like the big IM's of the time. TBF I didn't get far with it, was more a sort of learning exercise really and I dropped it once I had a sorta proof of concept. Never made a user interface or anything like that.

I only bring it up again as have a couple of other Entropia things (essentially 2 parts of a tool: a website and supporting client) I am (sloooooowly) working on (since like 2017 so don't expect anything thing before 2030 lol) but the question occurs, if folks happened to be running some sort of tool anyhow, would it be helpful to have such a thing incorporate a kinda chat or IM function?

It wouldn't really be the same sort of thing as a forum or even discord though. Just a thought that crossed my mind. TBH, don't particularly relish the idea of running/implementing a chat relay especially as it's so like re-inventing the wheel but thought I'd at least ask the question as to it if sounds useful.

On that thought, I wonder, does that entropia community tool that logs globals etc to that (Entropians?) website incorporate any sort if chat/IM feature? I've never run it. Also anyone know if their website has an API? Guessing probably not. Probably for lack of demand but maybe also from a lack of trust perspective, or even a desire to be king of the hit, retain power/dominance/control in terms of what people are running. Was just thinking, if they did have an API that anyone can contribute global data too, then anyone making an Entropia tool could add in functionality to contribute. Might see more contributors/clients in the network that way too...

OK probably a lot of this may seem more suited to the tools section of the forum but the key question for this topic is, would people like an Entropia tool that incorporates community comms features as a side benefit? Would it help or just fragment things further?

This is something i'd like to know too OT*

Very rarely these days you end up meeting someone willing to spend time chatting at certain locations.

Sweating areas have some discussions going on at times and some events you get the chat going but beside those i think people have become more focused on min/maxing and being time efficient gameplay wise.

Can't blame them i am guilty of that too. 😁

IF i hunt 1-2 months at certain location then i might meet the daily regulars around that area but most of the time maybe 1/3 even says hi..

It is MMO but at times feel like singleplayer.

Where's the exploring, partying and going for Epic hunt together against unknown foes?

Not to mentioning goofing around?

I miss those experiences...

Depends where your hunting and who you meet. Some people are more talkative than others.

Think of it like cities and villages. In a city people tend to talk less, may say a hi if your lucky but they are too busy going about their own business. In a village however people are more talkative. You need to find the "villages" in here if that's what you like.

This forum and Discord serve completely different needs.

Here we have threads and stuff is kept together (and yes, things may go off-topic, but you get the point). Info can be formatted and edited better, it can be searched for, search engines crawl through the forum, ...

While Discord allows creating threads, it's not really convenient to use there. So it's more of a chit-chat area with channels for trading and sharing pics/videos and a more direct connection to MindArk and planet partners. For many questions you get a quick answer there and conversation is much better than the #rookie-channel in-game. Also you can post a link to a thread or message in this forum! However, if you'd create a dedicated channel for a very specific purpose, which starts with an informative post, you'll get a conversation below that and five posts later nobody reads the first post anymore. It seems like it attracts a different audience. You'll find people come in and ask a question that literally was answered in the message above it, scrolling is no more (I've seen that many times).

But yes, this forum had more traffic in the early days (anyone remember EFDs?!?!?) and Discord simply didn't exist back then.

While it's obvious that this forum could use more traffic, I wouldn't call it reason to shut it down or anything. Both have a meaning and are good in what they do.

My :twocents:

I once used Discord briefly in another game. It was far too confusing for me for information about the game. I soon deleted it again and never touched it again. I grew up with forums and like to use them.

Yep have noticed this too. 👍

i see some diferent approaches IMHO
1. someone goes full hunting, those do not talk much because of F pressing to rotate and that prevent writing
2. crafters if on the screen while clicking are ready to talk... IDLE activity
3. miners while extracting tend to talk, running and droppping usually not much

so if you like to talk try to meet ppl at the megavolt or in twin peak shelter, thre is always a bunch
i think most of the chat is DM in game, i found myself alsked for italian seaside places worth to visit ,
as well as "can we check our crafting sheets to see where the expected return is?"
Discord is chaotic, Forum is to get some different opinions (everyone has his own) DM is to connect with a specific player.

I can say that i have spoken also with well known top cyclers and they were nice to me, i never had bad answers by anyone apart some newcomer that insulted because in a crowded area i engaged same mob.....

If anyone isn't aware , there is a chat room function on EL as well.

Why not change it back to its original name - Entropia Forum.. currently www.entropiaforum.com redirects to the calypso forum domain
Also get rid of the sub forums for other planets in the process. Switch the branding at the top to "Entropia Universe"

If I recall correctly, when SEE did the deal to buy calypso they also made a deal to purchase the Entropia Forum from Neomaven so they could commandeer the player base, but I guess when the deal fell through so did the take over of Entropia Forum and ownership reverted to Mindark. Sadly the name change stuck and it stayed Calypso Forum, but in fact this is Entropia Forum, maybe it's time to reclaim the heritage before the forum dies out...

I assume Mindark own the forum now and since they have acquired NI and RT, it would make sense that they rebrand the Forum..

But I think MA would only be motivated if it came from you guys, meaning the most active users of the Forum...

Personally I think this might be a good strategic move to strengthen the Entropia Universe brand and to let the World at large know there is a strong community on this platform. That may help to stimulate growth..

Remember the expression divide and conquer. That was at the heart of the motivation to rename the forum "Calypso Forum"

Perhaps it's time to re-unite the Entropia Universe community and show some solidarity so you can show a strong face to the world and fight for the growth of your Universe

I'm just trying to get them to show the TT value of fuel in my vehicle , when I mouse over it in storage.

But yeah , build a new Entropia too.

a lot of great points here

so it doesnt surprise me that MA did a 180 and divided the already small playerbase into 6 seperate forums.

Good post ND, and i think you are right about re-uniting forums. Maybe a main hub page and seperate forums per planet within and show activity on all forums combined on main hub page (Same numbers just presented together).

Both planets (bigger game area), and seperate forums/activity on them kinda make the game population look very small. People spread over much bigger area ingame, along with split over multiple forums creates this perception (although at a guess i would say game quieter than in past but could be after pandemic rise in free time for people).

The "look" to new guys coming into game along with active forum/discussions is one of things that would help with player retention. Along with forum links on gateway, centralise all the "apps"/weblinks we all use.... such as lootnanny, LBML, entropialife, entropedia (although a better replacement would help a lot perhaps aided by MA in some way?), etc.

Anyway isn't my job so to myself no big concern, but when i see some posts by those with most to lose ingame if goes wrong i truly despair. For game to grow sitting in ivory towers telling guys to get better mentor, or whatever doesn't help....... you guys have most to lose if less people play/buy your mark up. Community also needs to take a part in player retention, and to be fair most do in small ways including myself.
Think on it. :)

One Forum to rule them all.

This sounds good. 👍

Have diff sections for each planet but consolidate it to one news post feed. 👍

@NEVERDIE has several good points, feels like this is the way to go, for a future for an Entropia related gaming forum. At the moment it is far too fragmented. Hope MA sees advantages in this proposal too... (y)

Hmm, I thought NI was bought by another entity. I don't remember seeing an announcement that MA bought it?

NI was bought back not long ago and I seen it somewhere. I think in the last interim report.

I always thought the BIG industries somehow got hold of NI... no one on FB seemed to ever want to identify themselves though. Maybe there is some sort of management/ownership deal going on between them and MA? Who knows. I'd be more inclinded to believe ND on this.

As for the forum my understanding was MA bought it off Neomaven, who bought it off the original owner (I forget who what was). EF was originally kicked off in response to EP (Entropia Pioneers) kinda becomming a bit toxic. Various others got kicked off as a result of EF eventually becoming toxic,

Anyhow, some time after PCF formed EF re-appeared, empty, and no one used it. No idea if it still exists. (edit 0 it doesn't... domain now forwards here).

So yeh could do a rebrand. Not sure on the logic of scrapping the planet subsections... think those will be needed. As for other forum's dedicated to other planets. Think those are operated by the PP's so don't think MA can ask them to shut down.

I guess everyone could just agree to move to EntropiaPlanets of course... hehe but that would never happen. Once an account here always an account here.
