Planet Calypso - The Next Chapter

I personally will never set foot on a planet which honors a person who likes children "a little too much".:rocket:

Maybe they'll get on it A.S.A.P.?!? ;) :ahh:

Space - The final silence...

Is there anyone left at SDS? :)

MA now run Calypso once again, so give them a year to get things back on track :) and rename another company to hand calypso over to which we then have to give a year to get things in shape and restructure. and then rince repeat.

LOL

MindArk wants to inform our users that the cooperation between SEE and MindArk has been terminated. From now on, MindArk will run the operation of Planet Calypso. Participants of the Entropia Universe will not in any way be affected.

Any of the planets proposed by SEE and SDS are likely to be no more.

The $6M was being paid by the players on Calypso anyway and I guess we didn't spend enough ;) or SEE spent all the money on licenses from the MJ estate and Universal.

well perhaps they were not happy with how "professional" MA handles things and quit the contract? most contracts include a clause where both parties can quit at any(?) time if some requirements aren't met ... having watched how MA handles things over the past 4 years i could easily imagine that :silly:

anyhow - just speculations ofc, no solid info as usual :wise:

So how did you get your quote?!?
I mean that one: "Notice: 16 June 2011 12:30 UTC

I don´t think too many EU participiants know that SEE are out of the business now? I for one never heard of that. So as I get it MA now manages the EU platforum AND develops new content for Calypso? Do they even have the personel for that? I mean from how I got it they wanted to specialise on platform development which is an entirely different range of jobs than creating the PP content. So do the old MA/FPC/SEE/WTF guys still work on creating the Calypso stuff now or did new ppl get hired for that? Or noone there who learned how to do that part of the development process and just the platform coders making some content aswell?!!? I am properly confused once again.

No wonder you haven't heard of it, it's from June 16th - that was just yesterday.

So as I get it MA now manages the EU platforum AND develops new content for Calypso? Do they even have the personel for that?

How i understand this is that they sold FPC (which were the ones responsible for new content) and now they somehow take it back (after it was renamed to SDS?!?) - however, the work on content should be done by Marco and minions, just like before the sale of FPC.
(And this includes PCF, as it is owned by FPC/SDS)

And now a big :banghead: and a fat  at MindArk - SEE finally realized how inept MA is - i mean, c'mon, would you pay 6M$ and then watch how they scare customers away with all the bugs, all time low loots, unbalanced drops and many many more annoyances?

The circumstance alone that the client loader takes 5+ minutes until i am logged in and ready to waste PEDs makes me want to play less and less...

MA, if you read this:
STOP introducing new shit until the game is balanced and playable again - what's the point in buying a mothership when you crash all the time??? Somehow you appear to think that more content will make people stay... but more bugged content is just another nail for the coffin.

Oh, and FIRE YOUR CODERS & BALANCING MANAGER!!! You know why...

We all love this game, but paying for nothing but frustration is killing this virtual universe.

The announced changes, while it's probably very neat for the hangar owners, it makes the game harder to play for me. For instance, I doubt the spaceship market will work from day one of "space VU".

And secondly, disallowing interplanetary trades over the auction makes it even harder to be on "other" planets where the supply of (L) items on certain levels is limited. Sure it opens up for traders, but on the other hand it will increase the cost of playing.

This kind of change should be set up as the implementation of footguards: First make the implementation. Then run the systems in parallell for a while, let's say a month or two. This will allow people to learn how to use ships, it will stabilize the market and it will give an opportunity to fix bugs. Then, if you (=MA) want, remove the TP and/or auction; at that point we know how life will be without interplanetary TP and -auction. I would appreciate not getting glued onto a planet without a reasonable chance to travel, or to be on a planet and not being able to get the resources or equipment I need, timely and affordable.

(Meanwhile, I do as good as I can, trying to get ATH or a 30 hp mob HOF - but it feels tough. My 400 ped HOF and monkey loots needs to be boosted by a factor 100 for me to have a chance. As ~80k hunting and mining ATHs have fallen out, hunting remains and to have a chance Skippie's 41k Proteron has to be beaten.)

<Advertisment>
To make sure that you won't be stranded on a planet far away, returning to Calypso this weekend to fight in World of Firepower for your nation is a great upportunity to ensure that you are on the planet with the best working market when space VU comes and connections to the rest of the universe will be cut off! Join us between 17:00 and 20:00 MA time for 3 hours of hunting fun!

What makes you think they actually paid the 6M$?

They were supposed to make a series of payments, but the last time we heard they hadn't yet delivered on their promise (and i guess contract too). So it could very well be the other way around - MA kicking SEE because they didn't keep their end of the bargain, and probably bleeding the planet dry at the same time.

[Conspiracy hat on]
Or MA discovered that SEE employes were actually profiting from insider knowledge and that's what caused the multiple bans.
[Conspiracy hat off, use it just to see how easy it is to speculate about things we know nothing about - and never will]

Oh, and FIRE YOUR CODERS & BALANCING MANAGER!!! You know why...
I second that... but maybe they are allowed to stay long enough till Arkadia is fucked up. Then ppl return to Calypso where MA gets all the money. Aww that was a bit harsh maybe but still atm it seems like the Balancing Manager at the MA office does his best to screw Arkadians.

I think he said that, because there is not much information available.

On the other hand, Mindark has had between 15 thousand to 20 thousand active clients 3 years ago, when there was only one planet. Now there are 4 planets and only 3 000 active customers in total for all. I think someone has been doing his work wrong. And I do not think they are programmers (or even investors SEE), but rather Mindark executives who failed to sell the product to end customers.

Three years ago we had a VIRTUAL WORLD on Calipso. People would get together and socialise, sit, laydown in the grass, shoot the shit (chat), have parties, play and train there pets as they sat and looked at the scenery, form a group to do a beacon run, do some mining or hunting and generaly just enjoy themselves. Calipso was still folowing the ideals of the virtual world of Project Entropia.

All people wanted was some new content, like cars, or aircraft, new styles, pets you could ride or have help you in a fight etc.

We told MA what we wanted, over and over and over, but MA like most governments or company managers did not listen to the people who paid the bills, the people that paid their salary. The powers that be figured they knew what was best for us and they were just gona do it and thats it.

Well gess what MA, you screwed it up completely! Granted the new Calipso has realy nice graficks with CE2, but it's boring, and I mean boooorrrrriinnnggg. There use to be diferent ruines and stuff like crashed space craft to see, now there is nothing but a coupple of cities that are badly designed and a lot of beautifull landscape that bores you to tears after a while. The sunsets are glorious, to bad we can't just sit on a hillside with a friend and our pets and watch it.

I remember when Marco was talking about how he envisioned the new Calipso as a game and not a virtual world. Well Marco you were wrong, totaly and completely wrong and the numbers show it.

This is an expensive place, and as a "game" you don't have a chance in hell against the all the other free and/or monthly fee games out there. As a "virtual world" you were diferent than the competition, you ofered something that exsisted no were else, a place people could scocialise and that made the price aceptable because we got more than a game.

Now i'm moving on to Arkadia, if only for the scenery and ruins and just the way it reminds me of old Calipso. I know everything I have said here will have absolutle no effect on the management of this 'game' lol, god help us all if a manager ever admited he made a mistake, that would be the day lol, but just for the hell of it reread Xavier's post mabe those numbers will wake you up.

Have a good day MA :)

Im pretty sure MA gave SEE the boot.... SEE still havent updated there website....
I would have thought they would be on top of something like this pretty quickly.

Unfortunantly i think we will never know (if SEE didnt go bank rupt or something) since
the agreement should be ironclad.

Cheers!

I've asked Mindark if we will ever sit or lay down on the grass like we used to, the straight forward answer is "No". Shame, but appreciate the answer regardless.

Then again, vehicles are a massive boost on what we used to have back then.

I've asked...Then again, vehicles are a massive boost on what we used to have back then.

Not for everyone; I know... I'm old, stupid and stuck in the past but I would very much like Twin as it used to be rather than filled with useless vehicles by idiots, for example.

Are the vehicles a nice addition? For sure; as far as a "major boost"... not really. Taking 2 steps forward and one back (or three in some cases ;)) it's not exactly an improvement.

3000? where do you get those numbers? The deposit to the game have not gone down that much compared from when it was the highest, so the decrease in the number of players can't be that much, maybe 20 % less players and with the launch of Arkadia perhaps we even have more active players today.

I would also like to see a press release on this matter.

Hmmm....what happened? Maybe it was good for me to leave for Arkadia.

That is beyond lazy MA coders! Come on, how hard is it to animate sitting and laying down? :scratch2:

another unfinished "event" ... "Aaah ... the planet partners ... "

Worrying !
