So I know there's a 100 different threads about people with Intel having issues running EU. This would make 101. I've read the sticky on "Intel Graphics Issues" and it was helpful, but now I'm stuck. I've been working on getting EU to run for like a week and a half and finally have broken down and asked for help. There's gotta be someone out there who's had the same issues I've had and has solved them...

My comp (copied from DXDiag):

Dell Inspiron 530s
Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit
Intel Core 2 Duo E7300 @ 2.66 GHz
3 gb RAM
DirectX 11
Intel G33/G31 Express Chipset Family (286 mb) (drivers updated)

After installing EU I immediately got the "D3D error: no compatible direct3d devices detected" when trying to run it. Eventually I came across the sticky in the forum about Intel graphics problems and followed the instructions listed there: downloaded 3danalyzer 2.24 and copied files to EU folder; used suggested settings in 3d analyzer and ran EU loader; then got an error saying the binkw32.dll could not be found; downloaded file and moved to EU folder. Now I am getting an error that says "the procedure entry point for binksetsoundtrack@8 could not be found in binkw32.dll...

-I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling
-Running EU and 3danalyzer as an administrator
-Have had no issues running other 3d MMOs

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Unfortunately, there's not too many other games out there that really interest me, so I would love to have the ability to play EU. I'm not too knowledgable about computers, so I politely ask that you are detailed in your responses. Thank you in advance.

Where did you get your copy of binkw32?

Depending on where you downloaded from, your copy of binkw32.dll may be something else altogether. Those dll download sites can very dodgy. I recommend you remove it and download from the vendor: http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm

Also ensure that the dll is copied to the game directory. It will probably install into system32.

Here is a useful generic link about dealing with binkw32 errors, including your error.

Hope this helps,

The generic intel graphic chip set do not work for EU. U need Nvidia or ATI gfx card with at least direct X (DX9.0C) and above for EU to work. For most latest laptops, the Nvidia /ATI chips are integrated, so u need to ensure they are there. But not too sure the intel G33 is supported by MA.

Mate I think your graphics card isn't suitable. Get a GFX460 or 480 and you will be ok again.

The thread you have read about settings for Intel was intended for the version of EU that was before
they implemented Cryengine. So sorry to say its like the previous posters say....

KikkiJikki,

Went to the RAD site, but it only allows me to download their software... Doesn't look like there is any way for me to download the binkw32.dll file directly from them. I deleted the old binkw32.dll file and tried a couple others, which just led to different errors. Somehow I'm now back where I started with the D3D error... lol

How exactly do you expect him to put that into a laptop ?

Hehehe  Didnt notice that!

Noob, to be honest I think you will have to do what most of us have done and get yourself a new laptop if you want to enjoy this game. I have a 3 yr old Dell XPS which struggles and I am thinking of getting rid of it. From what I can see, if you like Dell you can get some reasonable combos;

Intel® Core™ i7-940XM Processor (2.13GHz, 4Core/8Threads, turbo boost up to 3.33Ghz, 8M cache)
Genuine Windows® 7 64bit
8GB (2 x 4GB) Dual-channel 1333MHz DDR3 SDRAM
SLI™ Dual 1GB GDDR3 NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 285M

That should be sufficient for running EU on High settings. As far as cost goes, you may find better prices than dell. The Alienware M17x is very expensive. Some PC shops can put together laptops for you. There was a thread somewhere for Asus Gaming laptops. Either way from all the searching I have done, to kick ass in laptops the price is usually 2K+ even 3K for the best laptops.

A more eco way is to get a standard PC, which you can change the graphics card when it becomes useless.

Good luck, choose carefully, and pay my respects at your old laptops funeral.

Cheers

After my opinion integrated video cards suck bad excepting the laptop ones. I had no problems with video card related to EU just that my old card was weak. Got a new one and it rock.

I realy need a new laptop, mine is falling appart due to years of neglect from my sister. Dont need one with a GPU or anything fancy. All It must have is decent battery life and a wireless card that supports injection from linux. :yup:

Gentlemen my comp is a desktop... Sorry if I gave the impression that it's a laptop???

I don't think you can run EU with that kind of computer, get a laptop and look for Nvidia GT330M or ATI Mobility 5650, both are like the minimum to run EU on a laptop. Of course, if you can spend a little more ... get a better one.

Good luck.

Inspirion used to be a laptop brand. So anybody sees Inspirion, he thinks "laptop", as it had very good brand recognition. Its Dell's, not your fault.

But anyways ... as Mega correctly says, you need a bigger psu in your computer to use a high performance graphics card. With your present one, you can probably fit in a geforce GT210/GT220, or their ati equivalents and not have really great performance. For mid-range cards you really want 400-450 Watt PSU.

Its not a laptop. and except for graphics, his computer is considerably better than what i have been running EU on on High for over a year now. PA and Twin can be a pain though.

Bummer that I'm not going to be able to get the game to work without upgrading. It's crazy how varied the same model of computer can be. When I look up the specs to 530s they're always considerably lower than what my computer has although it has not been upgraded in anyway. Since my comp seems to be significantly better in every way than the 530s base model, I'm willing to bet that I have a heftier power supply. I have to have a low profile card, what do you guys think of the Radeon 4650 for my comp? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102829

Although most likely you won't be able to play, the error you get has nothing to do with hardware, like others have suggested, but instead with not having directx 9 installed, and only directx 10 (they are not compatible, and have to be installed seperatly). You can let it download from the web, but safer is to install:

or if you do want to try let it download and install itsself:

My PC is older and slower then yours, but with a Radeon 4670 it runs EU on High settings very well.

If you do have a power supply able to run a 4650, you may also have an issue with overheating, hopefully you have a case fan at the front as well as the back. The picture of it suggests it may not have a fan at the front.

If not, there are other solutions:

Anyway, I hope you are successful in surmounting these problems and able to run Entropia at a decent framerate. :)

So, I went to the link, downloaded and installed directx9. I still have the exact same error...
