Ready, steady, go – in retrospect

Come on, I know Skam knows and anyone that has read community forums should know how long people have wanted vehicles. :trout:

And after being mobbed, you maybe should have moved to tp's fewer people had, or even better drove around handing out vehicles to people, you know, actually playing the game instead just looking for something they could flip for 1000 ped profit like some did.

Exactly that... and

+rep for that imo.
They gave out some nice prices to ppl and that is always nice. :D
Didn't get one this time but just get over it and make some fun in EU :yay:

Good to see that I get -repped for this...
Its not because I disagree with your opinion I deserve a -rep....

I understand the frustration of everyone. Because the believed they would get a car. But that didn't happen for most of us so in stead of thinking we are getting screwed by MA/FPC because we didn't get a car. Just think some ppl got lucky and got a car.

Don't be angry at the lottery because you didn't win ....

I wonder why Las Vegas casinos don't have their employees run around the casino floor throwing $50 bills around but instead comp their regular players by other means.

Don't be hard on the players, if this was done in a live setting people would have likely been seriously injured.

Wanted to add that at the Christmas event 1+ years ago there were a couple hundred players gathered and they were asked to form a line and guess what, they formed a line and the MA avatar handed out the gifts. A little guidence might have gone a long way.

And you are acting like it is a suprise that we jump like mad dogs on a bloody cat?

At least cats have 9 lives comes closer to plentyful :D

A classic case of jealousy. Give some people something for free and everybody else (who didn't get one) will complain, Of course I'm miffed at not getting a vehicle, but I am no worse off now than I was before.

Yes you're right, and I am guilty as well :)

We're all a bunch of greedy bastards.

I am glad they were only 200 cars. Imagine them giving out 2k cars and i wouldnt have had one, now then i would feel jealous!

Apologies accepted, 200 is indeed not plentiful, but it was worse to send out more of them.

"................."

In retrospect, the usage of the word “plentiful” was a mistake and shouldn’t have been used. The reason it was used was due FPC being excited that we this time actually had gifts, with TT values, that we could give out. And in that sense 200 cars was plentiful, compared to how often we have had given out freebies like this in the past.

I dont care about the cars I am just amazed at this.... 200 cars @ 17 peds = 3400peds = 340 USD ... that's less than one depo for me and 'you' thought it's plentifull????? ...

I would hate for you guys to be my secret santa .... baaaaaaaaaaaaah!!!!

Hi,

Every time Emma or Simon showed up chaos erupted.
Would have been rocket science to foresee it? Sorry, Sir, you want to muck around me?

At times, the number of simultaneous users online was over 50% of average figures – something we didn’t expect, and it added to the chaos.
So 50% more but an all time low in participants on line makes your game servers go haywire? 100 + some participants at a TP? Maybe buy some better servers but your hamster driven 386's? For what is this line in the annual report regarding servers? Do you really need platinum plated 386?

In retrospect, the usage of the word “plentiful” was a mistake and shouldn’t have been used.
Agree, calling 200 cars for the bazillions of participants you claim to have at any opportunity "plentiful" might be regarded "a mistake" - or a brazen lie, or an infamy, or even worse. First think, then speak - this motto has been proven worth gold for ages, maybe you'll learn some day?

The reason it was used was due FPC being excited that we this time actually had gifts, with TT values, that we could give out. And in that sense 200 cars was plentiful, compared to how often we have had given out freebies like this in the past.
I remember quite some gifts from MA that I have received in a quite nice, acceptable way. Even if I never found some in loot, I found them in my inventory.

I might have found a card with a random number in it, and after an official (server wide) announcement the PED value of the next HoF would have been the drawn number, and the 200 participants with the nearest number would have been able to trade their card for a cart?

The lesson learned is that the next time the actual number of items available will be shown beforehand.
I give up. You'll never learn. You seem not to have understood anything!

It's about the way you gave them out, making ppl pushing & shoving each other, crying for the gift like starving puppies to have a chance to get one!

It's about the brazen stupidity not to expect such, about the sheer laziness not to take at least half an hour to think how you'd manage to do such an important event!

It's about the disregard for us that you are showing us over and over with such actions, and with such poor excuses like this one.

You seem not to have understood anything.

They are actually saying that they were wrong in saying that 200 is plentiful. That's what the apology is about.

i did not believe i would have gotten one , what i do believe is that i AGAIN knew up front who all would be the chosen ones..

our soc has like 50 members with a 10average on daily maybe?

how many got a car from the plentiful stock? Right Zero

its not a lottery like this , if they would be in the loot it still goes to the same ppl but would have saved us alot of time and would get our asses out hunting or whatever spending peds to loot that car

rolt u ogen nog maar is maha

They are actually saying that they were wrong in saying that 200 is plentiful. That's what the apology is about.

Indeed !!
The only mistake they made was letting us think everyone would be getting cars when the managed to log in....

Yes plentiful wasnt the right word for 200 for well, however many active players there are - with over a 5 year wait for vehicles, I can bet it was a lot!!

I'm reminded in way of when rocket launchers were first introduced, in PVP areas, I didnt get one then either - and vehicles will become more readily available just as with those in due course. I can wait, and get one later on.

Anyway, congratulations to the 200 lucky people who received one, whether or not they kept it or sold it on. :)

Bit late IMO.. Typical

It should have been done right in the first place, not apologised for

Everyone makes mistakes. Takes a man to admit it!

Thanks Marco for the apology and hope for future events these factors are considered...

Atleast now we know what the player base in entropia really is when 200 cars was plentiful.

Problem could have been solved by:

-Reducing TT value to ~1 PED (to be able to hand out 17x the amount of cars)
-Handing out one vehicle to each avatar through the gift system
-Making them non-tradeable

Or...
-Putting them in Technician store, for a limited amount of time. That way anyone get a chance to try them out. And it wouldn't cost MA a dime.

"Gör om, gör rätt..."

They are actually saying that they were wrong in saying that 200 is plentiful. That's what the apology is about.

Mate I get what the apology is about but.... when you have 10 guests in your house and you order 8 pizzas... you might get away by saying... "I thought it would be plenty for us" :ahh: ... What you dont do is tell the guests, "I have plenty of food in the fridge for all of us" and they open the fridge to find a freaking piece of olive!!! .... that's not wrong english/typo, it's misleading and stupid!

I was about to write something similar.

Apology accepted FPC :)

Nice to see a apology, but imo it was as much fpc's fault as it was some of the community's fault.

Am i the only one thats embarrised at how the community reacted on calypso?

To quote a colleage of mine:

Lessons learned: None

What I want to know is why these people constantly make such stupid UNPROFESSIONAL mistakes, time after time after time after time. Every single important event, you can guarantee like clockwork they will F*k it up. I just don't understand it.
I just cannot comprehend the total lack of business sense, even common sense, they have.
On a postive note, at least they're consistent.

I got one question:

Doesn't Skam now work for FPC? She is a long time player, dont they ask her any questions?

I mean its not rocket sciences how things would have turned out. If you asked any player who has been here a few years they would have told you.

The way I see it is that if you take the ingredients for a riot, put them in a bowl and stir, you're gonna get a riot.

. Rumor has it though, that stocks will be plentiful :)

Should urgently recruit a manager of "customer satisfaction", who among other things should concentrate on imagining the consequences and impact of the decisions that he takes into FPC / Mindark in the minds of customers.

Finally, I will let other advice to Marco: there is nothing worse than creating false expectations on the client. The "quality" of a product or service is also about the customer receives exactly what it promised, never less. The error in this case was that we all somehow expected to receive a gift from Mindark (I think of everything we support in recent times we have well deserved) and finally only received, at random, 200 avatar.

Believe me, if this had happened in any of the companies in which I was responsible, who devised this system and implemented without considering the consequences and difficulties, would be in trouble.

well you might be upset but as i said before or in another thread, if you have any previous gaming experience or life experience for that you should know how ppl behave and especially in games. If they can get an advantage over someone they are very likely to take it. Sure it might not be the right thing to do but well it's a game and no real laws governing stuff. And also even though it might not be right from the community to behave like this, it was still MA who created the situation in the first hand.

Well my guess is they dont really have any people that know how to do followups and postmortems. Ie they dont seem to discuss each patch, new feature etc after it was implemented and then document the reaction etc etc to learn. Which ends up with them doing the same misstakes over and over again.

Hmmm...good point...note to MA...no more free stuff ever....signed Legion.

Thank you for the Clarification , and your apology is accepted.

I think a better way to have distributed the 200 cars woud have been a drop thoughout the entire continent.

Everytime a car was found , the screen could have said "Lucky Colonist SoAndSo" has found car #1 .. and so on till 200 cars were found.

Just a thought for future handouts.

Vrooooooom

Bones

no way

MA, you did nothing wrong. It is the people with high expactations that are wrong.

When you don't expect anything, you might get pleasantly surprised !
When you have high expectations, you ask to be disappointed !

200 cars with a value of 400 ped each, that is 80 000 ped that is being divided !!.

Plentyful in my eyes !
