hi guys,
I'm not new player.

I just wonder why should we join a soc?

Why is this soc not that soc?

I look around all socs and see there is no difference between them.

we join soc to make friend. ofc, but that's not benefit. all socs have same chance.

all socs require lots of thing but....there is no benefit to join. But more and more soc require all things, such as, all tps, skill must be attain specific amount, must be friendly.

Look at your soc and ask yourself. Why do ppl want to join your soc while you don't do anything to make the game more exciting (EU is boring now) ??

we need soc offer benefit not require us what to do

I have never joined a Soc.

well many socs do stuff like beacon missions, soc hunts, get togethers (IRL or IG), PvP events, etc, etc... while some do not...

some socs have a more democratic area, while some have a 'dictator'

so its a matter of preference ;)

Not all socs are the same, some have very stringent admission requirements while others are open to all. It all depends on the soc.

A few benefits in my opinion are:

  • Meeting new people/making friends (Yes it is a benefit :))
  • Soc Hunts/Events/Beacons
  • Being able to call for help when you need it in soc channel and having all your soc mates come running to rescue you.
  • Being able ask silly questions in soc channel and not having everyone call you "NOOB" (most of the time )
  • Having the feeling of being part of a virtual family (warm fuzzy feeling in the right soc)

I did not really begin to truly enjoy EU until I joined my first soc and met some really fun people. I can't say that soc life is the same for everyone, but in my case it has made my virtual life much richer.

A good society can take the "boring" out of EU.

It all depends on your personal choice of how you want to play.

Cheers :beerchug:

I could start a thread saying the exact oposite thing:
what's the point in being a freelancer? I bet it's boring as hell. And if you want to talk to a friend, u have to send pm's, and that sucks for both ends. (my first reaction when i receive a pm while i'm busy is #%$#&%; when i see it's a friend, i calm down and then i'm glad to answer). It's much easier to talk with your friends in a soc chat :D. And sometimes, the soc conversations are so damn funny that i glady stop doing what i'm doing to take an active part.
The benefits... well, it's up to each soc. Some have actually a plan and strategy, u know.. and some run events for associates :).

To keep it short our soc runs a rescue service at www.euforces.com

We do regular op-runs to check out and help stucked players at different op:s. And everyone in our soc shares that common interest.

Other than that we also do all that's stated it the previus posts above.

Regards Coach.

I wondered that at first. I tried joining a coupe of societies but not much happened. Then I joined a society that was active and the difference was enormous. I could quickly get answers to questions (like should I throw this item in tt or can I sell it). I could ask if anyone wanted to buy something I had for sale or was selling something I wanted to buy. I could also listen in to interesting conversations which sometimes told me things I would never have even thought of asking. Sometimes I could ask someone to go on a hunt with me, help me with a tp run, or even get invited to a team to hunt something I had no chance of killing on my own.
I could also have interesting conversations with people in my soc.

Those are just a few of MY reasons for joining a soc

Why live ?!
There is no reason to it, you only pollute the earth.

I can definately understand the requirements for some socs, absolutely a no brainer to have people in a soc which do not have the skills, euqipment and TPs to join a hunt.
And benefits...even getting ressource slightly below market is a benefit to me.
And trust is something that is the most valuable commodity in here ( one can not say that often enough).

I have never joined a Soc.

I joined only one, the other two I started.

as for a reason:

easy massive teamhunts with tt-gear (fists!)
loads of gratz when you global

etc
etc

I spent a good part of my first year in EU as a freelancer. I quite enjoyed it tbh, but when I finally joined my first Soc, it brought another dimension to this game/not a game. ;)

I have made some very good friends from all over the world.

Soc mates help each other, share info, help bring you back up when you're down, maybe toss some "loot" theories back and forth with, and just enhance this strange planet we inhabit for a few hours a day. A good soc almost becomes alot like a family in many respects.

I go on very long mining runs, sometimes 2-3 hours at a time and it's nice to chat away with some friends while doing it.

For me it just adds another lvl to EU.

I totaly agree to these! Eventhou that people dont allow me to ask silly things ._. i guess there is a resone behind it, infact, they prefer if i dont ask anything at all XD
And i rarely meet new people outside of twins, my soc is a bit oldcore so. ;D
But indeed, the feeling of a family is the best, that you really belong in the tag under your name! =) best feeling there is, and you know that they are there to chat with you! :yay:

yeah but u joined a dud society

I was reluctant to join soc at fisrt, but I am really glad I did, u can borrow stuff, there's always someone on to hunt with, always someone to whine too, always someone to ask advice from and much much more.

find one with people like you and enjoy ur self

  • Meeting new people & making friends & RL meetings(Em meeting Summer 08 was great :)
  • Hunts/Events/Beacons
  • A business concept withhin EU (not reselling :D)

With a good socy it isnt boring in EU even when you login to chat only ;)

My very closest friends were all sick of their societies and were freelancing. I was happy in Supremacy Reign, but there was no room for my friends in SR at the time, so I formed Puddle of Blood and invited my closest friends who were freelancing at the time. Now we are a very tight group of friends who discuss eco, profit methods, or just gossip :D

Ya the hounds are a bit of a dud society - but at last we are not disturbed

I have only been in two societies long term. (when I first arrived I had a drive by soc invite that I accepted and then got rid of the first day. I also joined the society of a person I met my first few weeks that disbanded almost as fast as I joined. After that I looked long and hard and joined the Dirty Dozen. A very active society for over a year, but a few left PE and many went their seperate ways to join other societies.

I freelanced for a while but missed the ability to have contacts to chat with. You just can not have the same type of converstations in a PM as you can in soc chat. I spent some time looking at the recruiting threads and the societies that were around and interviewed the members of a few, the same as they interviewed me and found one that seemed to click with me. I am glad I did, the hounds are a great society filled with some great people.

But rather than me trying to explain it - let these guys do it for me :yay:

societies have their uses.

Societies definitely have their uses. The first few I was in when I first started out did not have many uses (The American Soldier, and a few others). Entropia Asia Cadets had the use of joining me with some really nice folks... and giving me the hope of one day joining EA. unfortunately a big problem happend in EAC, so it disbanned, and half went in to EA and the other half to Zoku. I then became one of the EA gang even though originally when that happened, I didn't exactly meet the original requirements to be there. I loved EA, and it was filled with great folks... unfortunately, most of them were in another part of the real world planet than I am so were online when I was asleep or at work... When in EA, I started getting in to Trading a little with STTS and U.B.E.R... one of my old soc. mates from a few societies back was in NBK and I traded with him a bit - he hunted a lot... so when NBK Entrepreneurs came along, it seemed like a great find for a soc. for me:

https://www.planetcalypsoforum.com/forums/soctalk/139079-introducing-nbk-entrepreneurs.html#post1710177

Now that I am in NBK E. I have to say that it's starting to be a pretty focused group of traders with some very specific goals. Soc. Chat helps us a lot... and I think we will have a huge impact on the entire EU economy in the very near future. Hardwrath has some really huge ideas, and I think they can be very successful. We have some very good allies in the soc. so far and are making some very good allies outside of the soc. that want to deal with the soc. If you are a shopowner, booth owner, crafter, or basically anyone that's really interested in seeing how to do better with trading or your in game business, you should hook up with NBK E. We are slowly branching out in to a lot of sectors are are interested in making new contacts and allies at all levels who we can help and who can help us achieve something bigger than any one of us can do on our own.

If you have to ask then maybe a society would`nt do you much good anyhow.

Friends
Help
Advice
Team Hunts
Networking
Commraderie
And much more

Well studies have been done about this particular subject, and they found that if you are new to a situation and a group of people, if you can make seven connection, you are more likely to stay.

That's whay I think we do it, companionship, friendship, and team hunts ;)

wow, lots of things make me suprise about power of soc.

But.....it's really hard to let a new member "join deeply" in soc. I mean that most of current members have relationship and then new one come and that guy is hard to chat/hunt in team with others.

I've jumped some socs and find out that I can't chat (dunno what they talk or think) or hunt with new friends.

How can you "join" in "new house"?

Human Nature..

as discussed in another thread, you are your Avatar and your Avatar is you. last time i cheaked we are all human and its a basic human necessity to socialize, bond with others, and in most cases, it is actualy satisfying to help someone in need especialy if it is someone in your Soc/circle of freinds.

like Thorn said, "If you have to ask then maybe a society would`nt do you much good anyhow"

It takes time to get to know your soc mates, relationships take time to build. Just like in real life. :)

I think it is safe for me to assume that you are not a native English speaker? Maybe try to find a soc that has members from your country, it might make communication easier.

Cheers :beerchug:

last time i cheaked we are all human

Actually I'm android, but who cares... :)

The reason why my soc was created was pretty simple: to do something with annoying soc invitations when we were hanging around PA back then. I don't know why, but there was no day I could trade or chat with people without being interrupted. So we started society for the sake of being uninterrupted. Some people came later, some went away, but I hope we will find few decent people out there to join.

Soc is great thing, always someone you can ask for help or help to (which feels good too). Always someone you can talk to, whine about poor loots, yay! on good ones, comment on global chat and so on. I think I couldn't be a freelancer now. Even if my soc is small, it's good to be in :D

This is a strange question... why socialise ? :ahh:

My current soc is allowing me to network with a caliber of players that I would most likely never have the chance to meet or work with as a noob freelancer.

These contacts are going to really boost my presence and reputation in EU just by being asociated with this soc.

I feel fortunate to be in this soc and hope we can all benefit from our small yet growing newtork of buisness minded individuals.

Why live ?!
There is no reason to it, you only pollute the earth.

That's a reason, someone's got to do it...:D

And since there is a zillion reasons to join a soc, I strongly suspect that Trung is just harvesting EFD's here...;)

I'll start by pointing out that Trung is now my socmate in SV, despite what his EF profile says :D

Sorry to hear that you're feeling like that about SV, but I understand that it can be difficult to 'fit in' when you join a new soc. But that will come in time, unless of course you are in a soc which just isn't right for you (for which there could be many reasons).

It works the other way round too - when a new member joins, it takes us a little while to get to know them. I usually try to have a short chat with any new member (where do you live, how skilled are you, etc) just to get to know them.

I know that when I first joined SV it took me a while to get to know people (I only knew one member previously, my mentor, and had been playing for 3-4 months without joining a society). 2 years later, I can now say that the majority of my good friends in EU are current or former members of SV.

Perhaps it was a bit easier for me than for some, because I was never shy of talking in soc chat and posting on the soc forum, which certainly helps to break the ice and develop those friendships.

I don't see you online much (mainly to do with time differences I guess) so I don't know how busy it usually is in soc chat when you play, or who is there - maybe this is a factor, that it's too quiet when you are online?

If you'd like to talk about your place in the soc some more then please don't hesitate to ask me, or one of the other Colonels, or Twitchie.

In answer to your original question - the number one reason I am in a soc is for friends, both old and new.
