Imagine the scenario, you want to chip in and focus all your energy on one certain profession and instead of having a few skills in all different trees and skill sets you can choose 5 skills to place 5000 points in each from the beginning to help with the streamlining...

Which skills would you place your points in and why, remembering that you cannot place skills in anything hidden?

I guess what I am asking is, instead of being a jack of all trades and master of none what qualifications would you get to be a master of one?

(monetary concerns are suspended for this topic)

Are you or someone you know actually thinking of doing this?

If so I would have to ask which profession is most likely?

Edit: this link here may help if you haven't already checked it out.

Just click on the relevant tab at the bottom of the chart.

It is a purely rhetorical question at this point in time, I am wondering simply what other peoples experiences are...if they specialise or if they simply bounce around the gameworld and try everything...and end up regretting the hundreds of hours they spent skilling up a pretty useless skill like taming (at this moment in time...)

I am thinking about dumping a bit of cash in mining in the future personally, whenever I play any game I like to specialise rather than going off and splitting my resources up between many different skills...though crafting and hunting might be a possibility too.

Think of this not as a topic with a single answer but many, an insight given here unknowingly by someone might help everyone decide ;)

as a beginner with no skills... handgun, combat reflexes(helps with hit profession, evade and dodge),LWT,anatomy (both help dmg) first aid (to heal myself).....but if it were possible to have "any" 5 skills, as a hunter it would be commando, killstrike, intuition, doctor and dodge......

I would go for :-

Genetics
Biology
Perception
mechanics
electronics

Don't ask why, just a personal theory :).

first aid: 5k

courage: 5k
hg: 5k

How about:
Evade
EVade
Evade
Dodge
Dodge

Then I could hunt pretty much anything without needing to worry about armour

But you wouldn't have many skills to kill with.
But its personal prference. :)

Why chip when you can get them for free? :scratch2:

I guess that´s correct but if u have high evade/dodge you wont die so much while hunting and dont have so high decay bills
:)

my 2pecs :p

HG
Evade
Anatomy
LWT
combat reflexes -OR- HG

Manufacture Armor
Manufacture Weapons
Manufacture Attachments
Engineering
Machinery

I'd choose:
Courage - Because without HP you'll get nowhere..
Rifle - Or handgun if you prefer
BLP Weaponry Technology - Because all the best weapons are BLP nowadays!
Evade - To help minimise armor/FAP decay
First Aid - Because if you need to FAP, you don't want to be using a Vivo T1

athletics, courage, dexterity, combat reflexes, anatomy.

5k in scan human
5k in scan mutant
5k in scan animal
5k in scan robot
5k in sweat gatherer

Evade
First Aid
Combat Sense
BLP-tech

(after 5.000 points in BLP-tech and combat sense i have a new unlock)

So last 5.000 points goes to..
*drumroll*

commando

There, im done.

It is a purely rhetorical question at this point in time,

A rhetorical question is a figure of speech in the form of a question posed for its persuasive effect without the expectation of a reply; no formal answer is expected...

I think you mean 'it is a purely theoretical question'...

So theoretically I would chip, in no particular order, evade, dodge, rifle, athletics & courage - miss points, miss points, hit points, health points & health points...

Cheers, Nobleone :beerchug:

Bio skill
BPC
Machinery

-) Rifle
-) Pistol

Hhmm, interesting exercise. Of course the hunters will recommend certain hunting skills, crafters will recommend engineering, etc., however here's my take on it.

First and foremost, if you are chipping in heavy, make sure your budget allows for purchasing equipment of appropriate caliber. It does no good to be lvl 50 miner, if you can only afford TT mining gear and 20 probes.

If chipping up to specialize is a serious goal, here's a possible way to do it.

First, you must decide which of the major general professions you are most interested in. I say "general professions" because each has their own specific sections. In mining, do you do ore or enmatter? In crafting there are some 17 different professions. Hunting? Don't even get me started. Even in coloring and beauty, there are choices. Do you specialize in hair or body alterations?

OK, so hunting, mining, crafting, beauty, etc. pick one. Then narrow it down. You can view all professions here.

Let's say you decide to be a BLP weapons crafter. Checking here, I can see what skills make each specific profession and what % contribution they have. I'd find the 5 highest non-hidden skills (not attributes) and chip those up. Using the above example, we get the following:

BLP Weapons Engineer chip up skills from highest to lowest contribution
  1. Manufacture Weapons
  2. Engineering
  3. Weapon Technology
  4. Machinery
  5. BLP Weaponry Technology

Get those plus appropriate BLP blueprints and materials and hey presto, you're in business.

Hunting is a little different. Due to the offensive and defensive requirements, your skills will need to cover a few different professions (I.E. hit, dmg, evade, etc.), thus you will likely be fairly low in all sections, so get the most out of your skills. Many skills cross over in professions, so for example you can find some that help with both hit and evade professions, or hit and fapping, or dmg and health, etc. Too many choices, so here's a way to narrow that as well.

Specialize in hunting a specific mob, say Oculus. (Not a good choice tbh, but you'll get the idea) You must determine its attacks (in this case electricity) dmg, (fairly high) and defense requirements (they require dodge, not evade). Find appropriate equipment (ghost+6Bs, a 2600 fap, laser rifle+amp). Again you can use Entropedia to determine typical dmg vs your armor, and figure out if your assumed health/fapping skills can handle it. Also figure out your assumed dmg/sec with the weapon you will carry. Adjust as needed. Once you find the sweet spot, hit the stores and buy those chips and equipment.

I mention the equipment a lot because honestly, skills alone just sucks.

However, FJRMac is right. Without even a hint of whether you want to hunt, craft, whatever, you're gonna get all sorts of answers, which, I'm guessing is your intention at this point.

Good thing you said financial considerations were suspended for this topic, because 5,000 points of any single skill can cost anywhere from 1,200 to over 66,000 peds. Times 5 and you're talking serious cash, not to mention equipment.

I'd choose:
Courage - Because without HP you'll get nowhere..
Rifle - Or handgun if you prefer
BLP Weaponry Technology - Because all the best weapons are BLP nowadays!
Evade - To help minimise armor/FAP decay
First Aid - Because if you need to FAP, you don't want to be using a Vivo T1

answered for me. although i wonder if you'd need a fap with 5k evade, so possibly Athletics for the HP or RDA for some decent damage. latter would put you mid 20s hit/damage professions so some decent L weapons maxed.

shortblades - melee combat - anatomy - courage - evade

option 1.
Manufacture Tools
Manufacture Attachments
Manufacture Weapons
Manufacture Armor
Engineering

option 2:
Prospection
Surveying
geology
Calypso Ground Assesment
Mineral Sense

option 3.
All in engineering

It is worth mentioning that 5000 point is not just 5000 point. Fx., if I had 1 in engineering and chipped up to 5000, the chip would have a t value of 150 ped, but if I had 5000 already and chipped up to 10000, one 1250 poed chip, wouldn't be enough.

At this time I got 3900 in engineering and if were to chip in 5*150 chips, I'd end up around 7500.

But I guess you want them in 5 different skills and it is assumed that one start out from scratch, and in that case option one is prefered and would cost around 80-100k peds.

Then again, if I had 100k, I'd probably spend them on on those customized 213's that I want so badly...

1. Rifle
2. LWT
3. Anatomy
4. Evade
5. HG / Dodge

Id chip in:
