Hhmm, interesting exercise. Of course the hunters will recommend certain hunting skills, crafters will recommend engineering, etc., however here's my take on it.
First and foremost, if you are chipping in heavy, make sure your budget allows for purchasing equipment of appropriate caliber. It does no good to be lvl 50 miner, if you can only afford TT mining gear and 20 probes.
If chipping up to specialize is a serious goal, here's a possible way to do it.
First, you must decide which of the major general professions you are most interested in. I say "general professions" because each has their own specific sections. In mining, do you do ore or enmatter? In crafting there are some 17 different professions. Hunting? Don't even get me started. Even in coloring and beauty, there are choices. Do you specialize in hair or body alterations?
OK, so hunting, mining, crafting, beauty, etc. pick one. Then narrow it down. You can view all professions
here.
Let's say you decide to be a BLP weapons crafter. Checking
here, I can see what skills make each specific profession and what % contribution they have. I'd find the 5 highest non-hidden skills (not attributes) and chip those up. Using the above example, we get the following:
BLP Weapons Engineer chip up skills from highest to lowest contribution
- Manufacture Weapons
- Engineering
- Weapon Technology
- Machinery
- BLP Weaponry Technology
Get those plus appropriate BLP blueprints and materials and hey presto, you're in business.
Hunting is a little different. Due to the offensive and defensive requirements, your skills will need to cover a few different professions (I.E. hit, dmg, evade, etc.), thus you will likely be fairly low in all sections, so get the most out of your skills. Many skills cross over in professions, so for example you can find some that help with both hit and evade professions, or hit and fapping, or dmg and health, etc. Too many choices, so here's a way to narrow that as well.
Specialize in hunting a specific mob, say Oculus. (Not a good choice tbh, but you'll get the idea) You must determine its attacks (in this case electricity) dmg, (fairly high) and defense requirements (they require dodge, not evade). Find appropriate equipment (ghost+6Bs, a 2600 fap, laser rifle+amp). Again you can use Entropedia to determine typical dmg vs your armor, and figure out if your assumed health/fapping skills can handle it. Also figure out your assumed dmg/sec with the weapon you will carry. Adjust as needed. Once you find the sweet spot, hit the stores and buy those chips and equipment.
I mention the equipment a lot because honestly, skills alone just sucks.
However, FJRMac is right. Without even a hint of whether you want to hunt, craft, whatever, you're gonna get all sorts of answers, which, I'm guessing is your intention at this point.
Good thing you said financial considerations were suspended for this topic, because 5,000 points of any single skill can cost anywhere from 1,200 to over 66,000 peds. Times 5 and you're talking serious cash, not to mention equipment.
