What did you think you were going to do when you decided to join EU?

Earn peds while exploring and having fun  although instead i loose peds and explore and hunt and have pretty fun anyway.

A Virtual Tycoon...

same for me, hence the name!

My online name has always been GenX000... & before I started EU, my plan was to buy a shop under the Deer Head in the caves and craft (L) items with markup... so I could be "GenX000 Caveman Tycoon"...

unfortunately I knew very little of the way the game really works and it's market...

Once I learned what was involved in being a full time pro crafter, I ditched crafting, became a hunter, and set a budget of how much I was willing to spend/lose each month!

Then I discovered the world of healing-for-hire, which has worked out very well for me, so now I am healer/hunter! I tried starting a hunter-for-hire service, but I had a lot of problems getting it rolling and put it on hold for quite a while... I'll be reopening that service pretty soon though! If anyone's interested, you can check out the details --> here <-- (I've tried to keep the info updated as much as possible)

Details of my fap service are linked in my sig...

If you'd like to use my services or have any questions, feel free to post in my threads, PM me, or add me to your friends list in-game through the player registry!

GL to all in your future endeavors! :beerchug:

I eventually created a society with the purpose of teaching newbies the game, and gave them an opportunity to make some PEDs by helping me sell low- to mid-range items, a few famous names spent time as members of that society & as the very few disciples I took on. With the introduction of the auctions effectively putting an end to the fun and social interaction of trading--players just spend hours mobbing the Auctioneers nowadays--I began playing less and less and ultimately disbanded the Dead-Zone Harlequins.

Not that I ever quite figured out just what the soc name meant, those were the days all the same.

So first time I joined was cause me and my brother played WoW and it was down for updating or something stupid..... and my brother mentioned there was a game you can make money by playing... i was like no way...... so i installed it we both played i saw that potential and kept the hope, however my brother quit. He still asks me about the game and tell him it wasn't a lie you can actually do well on this game all you need to do is be smart and use your activity correctly.

this is the only true game i would ever play... has everything....... and not a game where you can just come in and click some buttons you also need to watch and observe the markets and play according to the markets.

you are in control of your own destiny

I thought I was going to have fun.
Instead I got years of disappointment, a huge bill and a slight gambling problem.

One of my friends start to play this game and nagged on me to join him in told him i dont do this kind of games is only shit, but he continued to nag so i joined him about 1 month later.

He stop to play about 6 month later but he is looking in from time to time and i am still here.

The game was kind to me the first year then i started to lose mega no matter what i did but it had started to be nicer to me again after i got lvl 100 in blp.

Well, my first thought - back in 2005 at the CND-hype - was: Hey, cool thing! Free to play, lots of things to discover, talk to folks from all over the world ...

I started as a freelancer with a pretty nice mentor from Hunters Unlimited. That was the best choice I did. After collecting all the TP at Eudoria I sweated mobs until I got enough money to buy my first melee weapon: an Axe 01. One day I was stuck at an outpost together with two or three other noobs when a nice lady popped up and asked if we were in need of some help to escape from that bad place. "Ohhh yes please!!!!" we all cried. She told us to follow her, pulled out a blade (!) instead of some super-gun and sliced a safe path for us noobs through the red dots at the radar. We arrived a point where the swordlady told us to hit "T" and we all ended up at at a safe place with a TP. That was the day I decided to become such a melee hunter. And regarding to this "hit T" I made one of the first Revival Maps of Amethera.

I never ever thought that I could withdraw money out of this game. Vice versa I paid a lot of PED for the entertainment. But it is worth it. Nearly eight years meanwhile ... a really nice half time for an online game I guess. Meanwhile I became the Atrox Hunting Queen at EF, got some serious hunting equipment, clothes and a pretty nice apartment. I feel comfortably here :D

My start actually seems to differ from a few that I've read on this thread,

My friend introduced me in 2008, didn't say a WORD about free to play, he was hunting in ghost, MKII and Military and having fun at it, as an MMORPG player I immediately thought "Hey, this might be fun".

So my friend told me that everything ingame costs a little bit, so the higher you want to go, the more it costs. And i was plenty fine with that, as it reminds me of other activities, if you go out on a club, you can have a little fun drinking water, but more fun if you toss down a few shots and vodka-redbulls, i.e the more you pay, the better the play :)

I went in with the usual MMORPG expectation, to go as fast and hard as possible reaching for the top!

So I registered, played around, sweated some mobs to see how it is, and ended up depositing very early because I wanted to do more.

Despite some discouraging remarks even back then, like asking publically in Twins "Is it still possible to become uber?" which was met by laughter and rediculous remarks like "Yeah if you grind 30 years or have a big wallet IRL" I kept at, just switching from SIB gun to SIB gun, reading tutorials, trying out eco-plans and everything else i could find.

Nowadays I'm still working on getting to the top, that quest alone is a major drive force, the other drive force is to grind and grind and get all the natural skills that I can in the process, and maybe, just maybe I will find some loots that will boost my progress along :)

So I would say, for the introduction I got from my friend, the universe holds up, no false promises, no hidden agendas, just grind your ass and one day get to where you "belong" :)

Just Kickin the dirt

A friend of mine somewhat a super nerd I worked with recommended I take a look...not being a gamer herself nor was I, I proceeded to download and install.

I soon met with some Aussie's named Dave Ozi and Missa Saint :tongue2:and proceeded to hang with a great crew in Global Alliance.

The Immersion
I can remember running every inch of Eudoria and Amathera in awe; this was pre planet/vehicle days and quite a peril to do, often requiring assistance to be busted out of area's many times by higher skilled friends.
I soon made low to mid levels mining and hunting and moved on to major in hunting my chosen path and built an extensive network of both Antipodean and worldwide contacts.
Selected as a Emissary I represented Mindark at the Go3 Gamming Summit Perth 2008 with Deathifier, Dave Missa, and many other goodly folk!

Transitions:
World of Firepower Since 2007 transgressing the grunt levels to Main Team hunter (quite a thrill)
Continues to slowly build skills.
Make some purchases of high end weapons, house, rare odds and ends and armour (yep some black stuff)
Moved on as General of GA now sitting in the ranks with the great Antipodean Army...a great crew... onya Serica for keeping the Wild Colonial Boys in check :)

Plans:
Not much but to keep wise and continue on my quest to stay informed and continue to be social and have fun + be a little more revenue neutral :tongue2:

Found this game while randomly looking for a new mmorpg when the one i played, Earth and Beyond, had announced it would close in 2004, so i first played at 2003/2004 thinking why cant this game give me anything to start with...

Tried for quite a while to make money without depositing, as back then even i (who was 13) was afraid to deposit.

My thought was always that if i have a jump-start deposit to get me going and i use it wisely i can profit and last long without depositing.

I only finally deposited around 2007, when i managed to play for an entire year with only $30 (mining 90% of the time), fulfilling my thoughts :)

Play without depositing much while hunting. My favourite profession.

Progress? I was met with not sound results. Quit hunting of late.

Not sure really, my friend told me about this game with real cash economy and I figured I'll give it a go and sweat my way into fortunes.

6 years and few k $ of deposits later I'm still here, still not sure what I'm doing.

Play a cool sandbox scifi MMO.

I have done that.

Isnt it funny how most of these posts revolve around not depositing?

So what most people here are saying is "I wanted to do something for free, do it for free for years, and maybe even make money doing that thing I did for free, for years."

Sounds kinda silly when you look at it that way, doesnt it?

Join a VR with a chance of a small profit in the long run.

Turned out just as i vanted in the begining, tho there was a while a time I wanted this to be my actual bank and i still have hopes but they are slim.

Get fucking rich or die!!!

No but, i had a really good mentor that thought me early that fun and discovery was the most important aspect of this game. Even after all these years i aint searching for that ATH or try to become uber, but just having a great time to escape reality. I dont have many friends in EU but those who are, are all good people i can trust with all my heart and talk anything to them even personal things. I think thats more important than $$$$$$ and skills.

Read about the TI purchase in the papers, and was curious.

I thought I'd dl it and run around for a while and see what it was all about. Figured I'd try it out for a few hours and then move on with my life.

Somehow, I got kinda stuck. :scratch2:

About 10 years ago I opened a pub here in the UK. I met a great bunch of ppl around my age (early 30's) Whilst shooting the breeze and drinking occasionally I would here the words "opallo" or "Ped" or "Argo" or "Levi". I was curious about this strange language so asked what the words meant. They were going on about this game (PE back then) - I was bemused and thought them a little obssesive. Anyway, running the business took all of my time and I only used computers for music and not gaming. The only games I really played were instant gratification console types, short 20 minute bursts.

Eventually after a few years around 2008 I think I downloaded the game and spent 4 hours running around in an orange jumpsuit thinking - this is crap. The game was not smooth but then i was using a very poor graphics card.

I left the game alone thinking my friends were all mad playing this game so much. Fast forward to 2011, I have given up the business after 8 years and decide to take 3 months off as I have had little time off in the past years with work and family commitments. It was winter and I thought - what shall I do. I phoned a friend who played and he directed me to the site to download the game. I logged on and between my friends they gave me an armour set and opallo a fap and some ammo. I played for 5 days til the ammo / loot cycle had run dry. My friend flew me to RT but on the way back I had a CTD and ended up floating in space for 3 days. I nearly quit but a support case had my AV revived at Caly SS. I had no Ship or way of getting down and no ped. The TP fee to planet was 7 ped so I depo'd 100 ped to get back on planet. That was it - I was hooked. The first year I depo'd a lot, hunted all the time - tried mining and hunting. The second year I depo'd less and concentrated on hunting smaller mobs with small (UL) SIB weapons. In the last 3 months I have depo'd even less and try to offset my hunting losses with trading.

I don't claim to be self sufficient but compared to the first year I can play (hunt and trade) for hours a day without losing too much ped. I never really was into these kind of games and mocked my friends originally for playing it. Only one of the orginal group now plays regularly, the rest log on occasionally. I am the late comer and always the newb but now I am probbably the most active member of my soc.

I could say that I wish I had started the game earlier but in reality my RL would not have allowed me the time to devote to the game so I don't mind.

I love the game - I now Dj on Atlas Haven Radio and have a couple of graduated desciples with a couple more who look to be long term players. I can't wait to get home each day to log on and check the Auctions, and see if I have enough ped to go out hunting. I try to keep to smaller mobs and am currently skilling MF and Melee. I never though I would be able to hunt Atrox/Ambu Young in no armour - but I can - If I am careful. I can hunt young argos all day long with very small SIB UL weapons and I do, one day i will reach the 10k - just under 5K done so far.

I like Arkadia and Cyrene but not really a fan of RT and Ni - well NI is dead as dead. I can't see myself stopping playing anytime soon and even yesterday I found a new location I had not visited before. Maybe one day I will get bored and leave, but I don't think it will be any time soon.

GL to all you Entropians - old and new

I wanted to kill a lot of mobs and make money from them and then withdraw 10k PED for new PC but discovered that better play for small fun than for money.

MOD;s please delete.

Thanks for sharing this great experience with your posts and say that I also joined as sweater and wanted to make a lot of PED and then this game turned out to be pure fun that being a PED's loosing/winning machine.

I wanted to kill a lot of mobs and make money from them and then withdraw 10k PED for new PC but discovered that better play for small fun than for money.

I just wanted to test yet-another-beta. But I could not install it, my connection was slow and the beta was having its hectic ending moments and the server was not stable. So I tried about 6 months later, again with not much expectations. It has been the most interesting game of all I have played.

When I first started Project Entropia... I thought I was going to be part of something, something amazing. A revolution. Something that would change the world. A virtual universe, the possibility to live your life, make your income, your friends, and have your entertainment all in one exciting dynamic constantly evolving virtual space. It was mind blowing. I thought to myself, "this is the future"... "this is where everything is headed"... And I get to be a part of it! It was exciting, it took over my life for a while there...

Back then it really felt like a "project". I looked forward to every VU, and was very satisfied with the progress and evolution of the universe. I felt lucky to be a part of it.

What happened?

Nope.........

Downloaded it and a heap of other games after 10 years of everquest and various other games. Played it for a few days before realising it was a RCE game.

Had no intentions of profiting from a game was just looking for some fun but was always good at turning 10 in-game currency into 100. Turns out im good at it in EU also :D

Same thing I think today as I did then.

This casino Last longer than the Indian one near my house. But the payouts and comps are fucking abusive. At least I get 5 dollars of free play every month from the Indians.

Usual cliche story for me, thought I could make some pocket money, after a few months I realised it wasnt the case. Stuck around cause I liked the game, I started in oct 2012 and made a new ava after about 7 months because I didnt like the name of the old one.

I was making about £50-100 pcm at one point from mining but then they nerfed that for me. I believe they had to change that return rate to stop people hording cash or withdrawing.

Top reasons I stay: Mature and hopefully smart playerbase (mostly) Cool artwork (IMO) Great landscapes, RCE aspect makes it seem like a more viable hobby, and definately more exciting with the gambling aspect.

-k

Edit: Some stuff I forgot: The skills/profession matrix I feel is ingeniuos in concept, also the dynamic loot system. Though it fails us, is in itself an impressive peice of engineering.

And snables...
