Hi, i started playing a few days ago (at the beginning of 2007) and im gonna post my story here for fun and maybe update it regularly. I would also like to get comments and hints from more experienced players :). I had to make a new post because the forum tells me i cant update my old one because it has to many picture while it has none (weird). I had to start writing it all over again because i lost my text of the chapter 2 edit xD.


Working my way to the top: a n00bs experience in Entropia Universe​

CHAPTER I: PLAYING FOR FREE

Part one: sweating

BZZZzzzzz a bright white light blinds me. I slowly begin to see. Im alive!! I try to move. I jump. Im born.

I look left and right. What do I hear? Its someone calling out seeking to mentor some ppl. I dicide to chat with him. I follow him to the sweating :sweat: grounds just outside town. After 2 days of sweating i finally made some PED's.

After a long run I make it to the first teleport northeast of Port Atlantis. Later on I managed to run all the way to Fort Ithaca.

I sweated for several hours. After all this sweating I still couldnt afford a simple gun to hunt, a healing pack, or armour. Project entropia is hard on new players, unless you are willing to deposit at the very start. At this point in time I was thinking "wow this game sucks" and "This is the greediest game ever".

I met some nice ppl, someone even gave me a riffle and 400 ammo (4 PEDs worth). Someone else gave me an almost empty -though still very usefull- fap5. And above all, someone gave me cloths!!!! (TT value 15 PED+/-, ty so much for this, I still have it).:bowdown:

Part two: the hunting trip

Woot! Finally after all that hard work, lets have some fun and kill animals (I would never do this in real life, who came up with this idea anyway o_O)! The hunting trip was a total disaster. I got myself killed serveral times before finishing the mob, and loosing ammo because of this. I did, however found some hides to sell and bought new ammo with this. Every time my ammo runs out and I sell stuff to the trade terminal to buy new ammo I can buy less and less. I lost about 6 PED's ammo in hunting and didnt get anything in return. Now im broke, back to the sweating :(.

Part 3: the sweating bussiness

After learning an important lesson (hunting is designed to make you spend money) I had to find a new way to make income, so I started trading. I already sold some sweat before and its cheap so I decided to resel sweat. After selling my gun, my armour parts, and doing some sweating I finally manage to get about 10 PED to start trading. After 2 days of buying sweat at 0.7 and selling for 0.8 at the market in Port Atlantis I made about 20 PED.

I often couldn't buy sweat at low rates because my capital is limited. This tought me a second lesson: It takes money to earn some, and so far i made 1 USD real life money xD. Working my way to the top will be long and take a lot of work. Ive spend many hours shouting my msg's at the Port Atlantis teleporter. I need more capital to make a profit thats actually worth my time.

I am dreaming about owning the sweat bussiness. All i have to do is automate the trading. I wish I could have a shop where all noobs would come and sell me their sweat, and where I could sell larger quantities at higher rate. I wish I could own my own trade terminal. Sadly, thats impossible, so im dreaming about employing noobs to do what I am doing now, im dreaming about buying nexus and making mind essence to get an additional profit on top of my sweat reselling bussiness. A noobs life is hard.

But right now i need another buyer for my 3k sweat and there hasn't been one for 2 hours....

Part 4: The TP run

I finally managed to collect all the teleports on the Eudoria continent. Many thanks to Alice for helping me get started on my TP run, and to the ppl who made the revival maps. I managed to get stuck at the outpost southeast of fort pandora. After several times getting killed by herds of atrox going southeast trying to reach the oil rig I decided to head back north...

Part 5: The oil rig

While i was at fort troy i hear someone shouting "Teleport to the oil rig, last one". I was trying to descide to go or not. I quickly asked to my society "should I trust this guy?", but i had no time to wait for the answer, the wormhole was closing fast. Knowing that i might end up anywhere i decided to take a leap into the unknow..adventure awaits. "Do you want to teleport?" I press "yes". My screen turns blank. I lag. My screen loads. Im dead. While lying there i can here some guys laugh. "Are they still teleporting in noobs?","Yes its a real massacre". I got teleported back to an outpost southwest of the oil rig, and decided to head back one more time. I got eaten by atrox. At least I got to see the oil rig once :).
 
CHAPTER II: AFTER DONATING

Part 6: Selling ME

Woot I finally got my 400 PED's from donating 40 USD! I'm rich now. Now I can finally make my own mental energy! This is a big step up from reselling sweat. I managed to buy 12k sweat at 0.7 each and 12k nexus for 120%... time to make some ME. The problem was selling it. I hoped to get 200% to make a small profit, including the decay fees for refining.

After a few days of not getting it sold i descided to try out the auction system. "Do you really want to place this aution? A fee will be deducted from you PED card. After selling for more than min bid [scroll down to read more]" I press "yes", assuming it said a fee will be deducted AFTER it sells for more than min bid. I didnt see the scroll down!!!!! So i cancel the auction thinking that it wont cost me any money and start a new one so i can alter the auction time from 3 days to 1 day.

I managed to sell the ME for 200% buyout, but I payed twice the fee (12 ped). At least the auction fee goes back to the loot pool. I lost about 6 peds making ME, all the hours shouting in PA to collect the sweat and nexus... Not funny... I wont make the same mistake again, thanks MA. I learned the auction fee is big, and that the sweating bussiness is bad bussiness.

Part 7: The mining trip

Now that I have some PED's lets go mining! I had this master plan, I would run to the hardest places in Eudoria (i got all the TP's :) ) and im sure to make some profit. I even went to the hidden island, but there was nothing there. After spending some 30 PED's on probes i decided mining is to expensive, back to hunting!

Part 8 : Back to hunting :)

After hunting young male snablesnots for some time around Atlas Haven, I managed to get my first global!!. Im hunting using a rifle and a handgun to finish monsters with very low hp. Rifle is obviously the most economical. I get not decay because I dont need armour, snablesnots rarely touch me. I also enjoy hunting with longblades a bit, but its alot more expensive. After the mining adventure and the auction fees, this global means I finally broke even. I even made a small profit, but it wont last long (about 20 peds, I used http://www.entropiatools.com/ to calculate my inventory worth)

I think its great that you managed to make 400 peds, but are you really having fun playing the game if all you are doing is waiting round to sell stuff to make a small profit to maybe go and do a little bit of huntin?
 
the 400 peds is from donation, its under CHAPTER 2: after donating lol

i edited my post to make this more clear. I gained 20 ped from selling sweat, and then lost 30 ped in hunting (i pawned my cloths). im not reselling ever again, id rather spend my time on a real job, or on real markets rather than waisting my time in EU reselling for a few real life cents.

I learned its not easy to make money in EU, and that this game isnt about making money. I dont care about that stuff anyway. I did reselling cause i had no other choice. I like this game but had to wait 2 weeks for my donation to go from my bank to MA's bank (trough bank transfer, moneybooker, paybycash and finally mindarks administration)

Trough those days i had the 'privelege' to experience EU without depositing, and found the game gave me a very hard time and that it was not very enjoyable. Actually i dare to claim that for newcomers, this game sucks.

But i have learned many things, and i hope to continue to learn more from this game that i see as a social and economical experiment, this society and this forum with all its interesting posts.

Not that I want to nag or something (I just love to do so :D )

But could you place this post into the diary section. It seems it belongs there and you have the advantage that no-one else posts between them :wise:

Hope to read some more of you story soon :)
