I did some searching on the forums, and couldn't see that this idea has been done yet, so I thought I would see if I could make it happen.

I would like to document a live game of chess being played on Amethera using colonists as the chess pieces. Exact Coordinates will be sent to each participant via PM or ingame chat...
White and Black Pieces will need to be determined by the following:
White Team: White shirt, Light Colored Shirt, No Shirt
Black Team: Black Shirt, Dark Colored Shirt

This is taking place on Saturday November 10 at 16:00 MA time.

The Pawns will have Pistols
The Rooks will have Axes
The Knights will have Swords
The Bishops will have Daggers
The Queens will have Whips
The Kings will have BLP Rifles

Participants will have to supply their own gear, I cannot supply everything.

On top of that, I would like to have 2 volunteers to play the game. The chess pieces themselves will need no knowledge of how to play the game. The pieces will be controlled by commands from one of the two actual players.

How it will work: What will happen is, we will go to the PvP area (to be determined) and then set up the board.

The pieces will take their place on the board. Everyone will have their respective weapons equipped.

Edit: Time between each move will be limited to something like 30 seconds... or one minute to keep game-play moving
When the player makes a move, the player will instruct which piece to move where on the board. If the player is instructing a piece to take another piece of the opposing team, the piece who's turn it is will PvP kill the other piece using their respective weapon. The opposing piece will not fight back Edit:

When the opposing piece is killed, he/she will revive at the nearest terminal, and then may return to the field is he/she wishes to observe the rest of the game play.

After the game, I will work on the movie and screen shots, and post them to the Entropia Forum, and the NBK Sub-Forum.

I've constructed a set out of PC signs; the main problem with that is the cost of 4400 ped to make 1 full set. I've only uploaded 2 pieces to signs so far. I'd be more than happy to be one of the 2 players; however, I must warn you that anyone playing could cheat by using a computer to help them. I coached chess up until recently and do some online advising still. Let me know if you'd like me to play. :) GL with the idea. I suppose I could also help with crowd control.

great idea, but how will you keep the other...err...PVP PK'rs from coming to the game and wiping out the board and all observers?

maybe you should hold it in a land area and contact the owner to turn on PVP...at least you would keep most of the PK'rs out that way as you would not be lootable.

or maybe an event zone, like the one on ithica.

Just to make a suggetion you should maybe just have teams;

White Team: White shirt, Bleced Shirt
Black Team: Black Shirt, Uncolored gray Shirt

Then more players can join and you mite get the full effect of it

Since the playes of each team should have det same color to get the chees effect :)

Can't help out because I'm still away at the time of the event. :(

This is True, however, since this is a friendly game, and there are no prizes at stake (as of right now) I would hope that everyone would participate fairly, and stick to the rules of the game. If not, well, then that is life I guess :D

As far as this goes, it is not going to be in one of the named, or lootable PVP zones, just at an area on Amethera where there is a low/no spawn of mobs, and the area happens to be PVP...

Also, hopefully I will have some higher level players who will help with crowd/mob control, as Mercury has volunteered above... So with any luck, the event will come off semi-smoothly.

This is a great idea, and I played around with ideas on how to make it consistant. Perhaps we can have a tailor sponsor the event by providing some bleached / non bleached (M) and (F) basic shirts so we all match. I am sure everyone involved would be nice enough to return the shirts when done. (I would hope.)
 
I had considered doing this, but not in PVP. You just need one jerk to come along and wreck the game.

I would help as a white pawn but... I haven't got enough ammo.
I will be cheering for my favorite player a few paces away from the board. ;)

BTW, you people can expect a heavy ammount of lag as just to fill the board, we'll be needing 32 people and 2 more controlling the pieces.

I don't know if the players are good or will use dramatic moves.
But it will be fun to watch anyway. :laugh:

We will have help keeping the "Jerks" away, so I am hoping that won't be a problem, but you never know.

That's what is fun about this experiment, it will play out however it plays out, and if it works out, well then it just might become a regular thing, who knows? If nothing else, it will be an experience. ;)
 
BTW, we need lots of Pawns still, so if you have some question or concern making you hesitate to participate, let me know, and I will see what I can do...

Being a white rook if some could supply me with an axe temporarly ( I would repair if needed afterwords) if not i can be a white pawn i do have a pistol to use (Korss 400) but not to fond of the pawns though

You ill have to let me know what time this takes place, hoping it doesn't interfer with my college classes.

edit: now that i look at the time its on saturday so, No interfering will be worried about. See ya there

Uncoloured is not as grey as it used to look. I think initial idea works, dark colours vrs uncoloured/light colours.

Verry nice! I love chess. If I'm there, I'll watch the game and take any place is free on board. If you fell like trying a chess game, we can meet on yahoo. My ID is in my profile. PM me there and if I'm not working we can try a game.

Any chess player with some self respect will not try to use a computer. Chess is not for cheaters, but there are some around unfortunatly... Anyway, for short games, computers are not that strong and can be defeated.
 
Was thinking - this is the 10th and 'supposedly' something supposed to happen this day with the notes thing. Would the following weekend be better? Just a thought.. .....

Well, yeah, the note thing :rolleyes:... I guess something may always be happening in EU. I do not want to postpone this game as many have already commited to Nov 10 at 16:00 MA time.

Perhaps the note thing will not be happening at the exact same time, and if it is, then perhaps this chess game will give an alternate choice of something to do for those that are not as enthusiastic about the note event :D

Oh, and Matthew, I will be filming it and taking screen shots. I will post that stuff here after the event. Also, there is a rumor that ENN will be doing a story on it, and will probably be able to be read on thier site.

Ah well, I also would spend 81 Mind Essence for the field (for the crossing Points between the fields and the corners as well it would look nice I think)

you will definietly need some crowd control/security for the event as no doubt some donkey will come by and try and pk people.

MA should make masks/hats of chess pieces and also impliment a game board.

Both player slots are currently taken, by Rojomojo and Mercury, so I have you down as a white pawn for now. If either player cannot participate, I'll move you into his/her slot.

If this works out, and I can turn it into a regular event, then I will definitely get you in as a player on a future game!
