The year 2010 is a turning point for both First Planet Company (the developer of the MMORPG Planet Calypso) and for MindArk (the developer of the Entropia Platform). Beginning with the next version update the releases will further show the separation between the two companies; MindArk will release the familiar VU 10.8 containing systems updates for the platform and FPC will release its first exclusive content release, called 2010|01. The name derives from the current year and which release in order for that year that’s being released.

I want to address three different areas of development in this statement. First I want to take a peek on some new stuff never before seen on Calypso, followed by a status report on old pre-VU10 systems not yet available, and finally share my thought and ideas on what FPC’s grand goal and ambitions are.

First Planet Company has some very exciting stuff going on for 2010. In mid February the next addition comes to the Planet Calypso colonists – the preview of the Quest/Mission system! This preview will contain a limited number of missions both for us to show what can be done but also allowing FPC to gather feedback in a controlled environment. A few weeks later we intend to release a large number of additional missions and will continue doing so for future releases to come. Missions will come in various forms, some ranging from assignments or jobs (typical MMO “grind” quests) while others focus on the experience, background and storyline of Planet Calypso. The mission system is a very advanced tool that MindArk has developed allowing for some quite interesting and unique-feeling experiences. Expect the complexity and depth of the missions supplied to increase with each new mission expansion release.

Another new system MindArk has shown FPC is one of the most anticipated systems ever (I think it was first mentioned back in 2005!) – The Vehicles system. We have had the opportunity to race through the Calypso underbrush at 60 km/h, jumping off cliffs and skidding into lakes. I personally believe the vehicle system is a great addition on many levels, from the actual experience of driving around, using it as tool for day to day activities but also from a business standpoint; who will become the Henry Ford of Calypso? Vehicles are expected to arrive during the spring.

Going back to the missing systems from VU 9.4, there are currently a few left that have not yet been re-implemented into the VU10 generation. The first of the missing systems to make a comeback is the Beauty system which will come in the Entropia Platform VU10.8 coming in February. Soon the avatars can get their hair done and make those nip/tucks needed after the Christmas festivities. The system next in line after that is the Mindforce system, which will come with additional powers and a new revised vision on what it is supposed to be; which part it will play in the bigger scope of things from player activity to the economy as a whole. The old system has been analyzed quite a bit and you can expect a better balance and more purpose in the new one. The MA devs also promise us that the basic system allows for adding additional powers quite easily, which I personally think is ideal as it brings FPC the ability to expand this area as time goes by.

When it comes to Taming, Mentoring, Makeup, and Beacons, MindArk has promised all of these will be back before the end of the year. Once FPC gets progress reports we will share them with you.

On a larger scale of things FPC is working on a Quality Enhancement Programme. We believe that quality is the key to achieving great entertainment and a fulfilling experience. We will not cut any corners when it comes to polish and the finishing touches on FPC content. The term quality is a difficult one to describe. The way we see it is to add beautiful vistas, great looking visuals as a whole, add to the Colonist Experience in terms of sense of purpose and belonging, adding much more lore, mythos, and background into the mix. To take Calypso to the next level and to make it feel energetic; as an entity that lives and breathes. The work of increasing the quality has already begun (you will see an updated server area in the 2010|01 release – we look forward to your feedback) and will continue during 2010 and beyond.

A very interesting reflection was when the Real Estate Development programme was launched late last year. It opened up options for estate owners to customize their lands and real estate. The programme has been a huge success. This has in turn allowed us to put more effort in quickly adding to it and advance it. As it looks right now we will probably add a new section and hire staff that will work full time with only the Real Estate Development requests and expand on it to allow more customization – I would like to see the option for an apartment owner to completely redecorate an apartment if desired and a land owner to be able to add villages and towns to their land.

I wish to close this statement by thanking each and every one of you who partake in Planet Calypso. Without you we wouldn’t be here. The last couple of months have been a bit rough and we really appreciate your patience and perseverance during this time. Together we can take Planet Calypso to the next level in every aspect of the word.

Sorry Hangar owners - you have to wait till next year

Make it so, number one! :yay:

free parking?

Where can I park my car at Twin?
Don't Let the Argos get my keys!!

Well written and looks promising.
As a matter of fact most of what I realistically expected was said,
with the exception of vehicles.

I will believe that when they arrive ;)

Oh but dibs on a Mini Cooper - wanna have one :D

Marco, you were also riding vehicles on test servers back in 2003.

For the other aspects, I have breaking news for you: a major aspect is cost to play. When I'll ever see the shortest MA news regarding that, I'll be thrilled.

You guys there at MindArk and FPC, are you aware that the world is in an economic crisis? Like, increased unemployment among your customers and lowered purchasing power among your customers and, extremely more important, among your potential customers?

Nice to see a roadmap, but well, let's live and see them actually done, not only promised and more important, let's live and see the costs.

I'm very happy to see this roadmap and to know a bit what the bigger picture is. And it are some amazing plans and promises! I'll be looking forward to see how it all unfolds :).

Sounds great... but my first thought is: How much is that going to cost? Will these vehicles be out of reach for the average avatar?

I am sure many of us would like a little hint about how vehicles are going to work (cost, types, abilities, decay, fuel, etc). The Teir System would certainly be embraced a little better had it not been expensive trial and error on our part. A sneak peek would be very appreciated.

Sounds promising, probably will stick around for a while longer. ;)

Vehicles?! Whooohoo :yay: Lady's and Gentlemen start your engines!

Stock all your crude oil! We need a lot of fuel!
Hmmm thinking about starting a fuel station ;)

Sounds good on the whole. But I want my makup mask back sooner! :)

now this is some music to my ears :)

pics or it didn't happen! ;)

I never was a friend of MA introducing Vehicle system on calypso,i still cant imagine how it could fit with the whole Calypso Story:scratch2:

Why using Vehicles if we have tp's and tp chips?
How benefit hunters from Vehicles?
Miner probably,Crafter for sure benefit but a hunter? :scratch2:

And the last but not unimportent question is:

Do u really want see Kimmi driving a pink Barbie Car through Twin Peaks?!?

Why using Vehicles if we have tp's and tp chips?

Because instead of jump-still-jump-still-jump-still you get floooooooooooow

EDIT: And maybe they are adding big non-tp areas? :silly2:

You have heard there are bigger than lesser tp chips? ;)

Vehicle talk has been around longer than that Marco.

I do appreciate the road map, but I have to ask - why keep adding new features and delay restoring old features? While I'm sure we are all excited to see the new features, I can't help but feel sorry for all the tamers, mentors, and makeup artists who were given nothing but a kick in the ass. Hunters, Miners, and Crafters may be the core of the participants, but not everyone operates in these professions and until all of the old professions are restored, someone is being shat upon.

With that said - yes, I am excited about the new features, I don't want you to think that I'm pissed about that. I am merely disappointed at how MA and FPC have seemingly turned their backs on some participants, just because they are a minority.

Sounds great... but my first thought is: How much is that going to cost? Will these vehicles be out of reach for the average avatar?

Will they cost more than a real car? Just like some of the clothes.

Sounds good to me... nice changes, nice roadmap. Some old thing still mising but I am sure you got those somewhere on the list as well.

Will MA further work on diminishing game resources ? Optimizing the code ?

And especially, does FPC have any influence on the balancing of the game, the cost of play ? All these features are nice... but we all know what the problem atm is. You don't want people to come back just to give the new features a try and to bugg off again...

Any n00b joining FPC needs to have an incentive to stay at an affordable cost... I hope you do revise that bit as well. I am aware that you are on a tight budget atm anyway but you know you have to change something along these lines too.. ;)

Thx for the heads up !

Edit: Marco today in another thread about loot

Does that mean some of the designer will actually log in the game , check around how things are , and will try to fix all design stupid problem , bug or nonsence ?Like stone in middle of those new concreate road , or grass in building?
Do you think we can have a screendhoot function ?that would help a lot to report design bug ?

some part of this can be automated and work same like sign...people should be abel to upload texture that go on wall...

yes those month was very very rush , specially for the ped card of those of stay and played...my ped card still scream of horror and dolor...
why not plan a not gambler area ?where average loot are better but we have less chance to get ATH? with all mobs that give some loot , you know , like in the old time...

OOOoooooo..... hummm.... are we require to have show ID to get vehicle? nevermind id.....can we use vehicle to drive thru tp to other area? like from eudora to amthera?...nah that cant be work....HEY FPC/MA can u tell me what kind size u give us vehicles? big truck with trailer, 4X4 truck, or fancy car, limo business car, small economy car, float car (huh no they did mention skid...) never mind float car... humm.. will they have somekind army vehicles. like we saw old version at PA tp where there alot tanks and stuff like that. but dont see them at new PA anymore...well.. we have to keep waiting to see what kind they are..

Wow gz to them to give us update info abt mindforce and stuff...alot updates coming soon.. i hope...

humm.. no info abt next island or rocktropia.... we have to be patience waiting for them.....

Hmmm.... a 500k PED car that does 60 km/hr or a 2 PED TP chip that zips ya through faster than the speed of light..... I could however see how vehicles would make for running some SERIOUS mob trains! Gather em' all up and hit the gas just as they're getting into damage range.... then slow down, let them catch up... and hit the gas again.... Oh man this is gonna be rough. :(

The first of the missing systems to make a comeback is the Beauty system which will come in the Entropia Platform VU10.8 coming in February.

I hope that vehicles become racable. get rid of teh golf course and replace with a race track.

Beauty and Quests this month! woohoo!

Thanks for the update. I am very curious about the missions system, and hearing that vehicles will be here in the spring is a surprise.

However:
When it comes to Taming, Mentoring, Makeup, and Beacons, MindArk has promised all of these will be back before the end of the year. Once FPC gets progress reports we will share them with you.
Did I read that right? They will be back before the end of 2010? So potentially these systems will have been offline for upto 16 months.

And no mention of the flight system either.

All this sounds great :yay:
But still after a year of waiting for the new planets as presented on Entropiauniverse homepage as "coming soon", ill wonder what the odds are for the release of all this is before World War III is happaning? :scratch2:

Seems like an endles story without action.
