Recent Changes to Team Settings

As stated in the Support News 'Recent Change to Team Settings' on 2006.11.07 we made a change to the team loot distribution rules. Our motivation was an attempt to increase system performance i.e. reduce loot lag. We have now had a chance to listen to participant feedback and evaluate the results of the change.

The analysis did reveal better system performance but it also revealed a serious decrease in fun. So in this case efficiency is going to have to take a back seat to fun:)

A new Team Setting will be included in Version Update 8.8 allowing stackable items to be automatically split between all members of a team based on the damage inflicted by each member. Thanks for the feedback, we're listening.

As you are at doing again spliting code , can you make it a way it stop stealing player money ?

No that i am greedy , i dont hunt , and when i hunt its alone.
But , only for principe , stealing pec to player at eatch loot is just lame.

For those who dont know how it work , let say 3 player do hunt in team.

the mobs loot 33 ped and 33 pec.
Eatch member get 11 ped 11 pec.
If the mobs loot 33 ped 35 pec.
Eatch member get 11 ped 11pec.
And the 2 pec left become ? become what ? just stolen ... disapear ... we dont know.

In a good system , this 2 pec would be cycled back in the next loot of the team , and showed.

You looted 10ped + 2pec from last loot.
this mean there a pec buffer on the team.


Yes i know its just pec... so when you hunt Hoglo , you probably dont mind much , but when a team of new fresh noob , hunt som snable , i dont think it give a nice image of the game...

Just a through of the usual whiner...

Ho , dont make it auto so all loot are fixed in munber , like team of 3 people will only loot things that can be divided by 3.
This will looks suspect and will create an other conspiracy tehorie.
Make things clear , and show them.
 
Yes right Etopia this was always that way we dont know what happen with the missing pecs. But the no stacks shared system as it work in the current vu is mutch worse. Maybe marco can explain where the monney goes but for me its not mutch of an issue to be honest. The positive effects outwight clearly this time. :)

Example
6 Person Team but only 5 fine wool looted and 4 Soft hide. So will the team recive no loot ?

Re. distribution of small stacks:

I am sure the Dev Folks will have the answer to that. The problem might be similar to a voting system, where certain %ages of votes are used to assign seats in a parliament from different lists.

For example:

The "party" Hunter A did 60% of the damage (say did 600 HP damage)
The "party" Hunter B did 25% of the damage (250 HP) .
The "party" Hunter C did 15% of the damage (150 HP).

Automatic loot would be:

3 Fine Hide (25 pec each) and 5 Animal Eye Oil (5 pec each).


Using a voting distribution system like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%27Hondt_method:

Hunter A: 600 HP grabs 1 item (most valuable 1st, so 1 Fine Hide). His HP are divided by 2, so 300 HP remain.

Hunter A: 300 HP grabs 1 item (2nd most valuable 1st, so 1 Fine Hide). His HP are divided by 3, so 600/3 = 200 HP remain.

Hunter B: 250 HP grabs 1 item (3rd most valuable 1st, so 1 Fine Hide). His HP are divided by 2, so 125 HP remain.

Now A's turn again, takes 1 Oil. 600/4 = 150 remain.
Random choice between A & C (both 150), say, C wins:
C takes 1 oil. 150/2 = 75 remain.

and so on.... this finally ends up with
A: 2 Fine Hide, 2 Oil (60% of money)
B: 1 Fine Hide, 2 Oil (35% of money)
C: 1 Oil (5% of money)

As stated in the Wikipedia: This system is less proportional than the other popular divisor method, Sainte-Laguë, because D'Hondt slightly favors large parties and coalitions over scattered small parties, whereas Sainte-Laguë is neutral.

Chose a voting distribution system of you flavor, MA, grab existing algorithms off the web and be fine ;) I know divisions are costly in terms of PC time, so there may be the need for optimising, but it is all out there....
 
What about equal splits of stackables? Damage splits is very good but we need to be able to choose equal also...

what i mean by this, is that what happenes when you loot only 1 item, and it aint a stackable?? say a full tt gun. i know only 1 person gets it (the guy who did mist dmg), but this new loot system still makes for poor (well, not as good as before, lets say) team hunting. we still need to be able to trust team mates to share loot.

is the ratio of stackables:items still the same as it was before the loot change? (by items, i mean non stackables with condition bars) if so, then its ok, if not, and there are more items then there were before, then it is not much of a fix imo if hunters dont get their fare share of the loot (as it is given to us. we shouldnt really have to split it ourselves imo).

this has always been the case, if you looted GSI (ESI) in team one person got it and you would split the money after it sold, you can't change it, same with other items with big tt values, and they didn't increase the frequency of these items, did they? they only replaced peds/pecs with oils

anyway i love that you guys listened to us ^^ (i too had sent a SC)
I just hope you didn't forget the equal option cause you only mention the "damage determines" option :eek:

i understand this as a "Damage determines" option.
so is equal distribution ever coming back?

granted i'm ok with having the leader take all in a 2 or 3 person loot with my closest peeps but what about when doing a hunt with those you dont know well? *i.e. noobs by pheonix rallying to slaughter the nearest corn prov....

equal is best when you don't know who you are hunting with.
you know....like it used to be lol

"if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kinda comes to mind.

Cant you just devote more system resources to the loot system so that there is no loot lag?
