As most of us know, when person IRl is creating a new avatar, many of males IRL makes females avatars :) The bigest reason for that is just cheaper armors (some are much cheaper).

But the question is... Is it realy the one reason for males irl make females avatar? and i am serious for this question. Pls dont answer "maybe theyr gay" "meybe theyr transvestits" or somethi liike that. altough it would be funn :D

So, what YOU think/know about this one?. :)

So what's your excuse

how did you know the armour was cheeper for females before you made your EU account?

Well, i knew about EU from a friend, so he offered to start play the game and allso he told me about cheaper armors for female avatars as soon as i start creating my avatar :p

I have a male avatar, but if I would create a female avatar the main reason would have been that it feels more comfortable looking at a females backside avatar in third person view than a males :p

Unless you have knowledge of EU beforehand, armor is not a reason as you wouldn't know. For that reason alone I very much doubt armor is the biggest reason to chose a female avatar.

The armor reason is also a red herring unless you don't want to advance above lower-mid player level. The price difference on many armors is negligible and not enough to offset the fact that the specialist and more uber armors are nearly always much rarer in F than M, and therefore harder to acquire no matter how much you can afford. In the past I have also seen several of these parts more expensive than the M version.

And for guys playing male avatars who think guys playing females are probably gay etc, there is a major flaw in your argument.

It's a pretty safe bet to say gay men aren't interested in the female form. So with that in mind, the next time you are running around and not in first person mode, remember what genders ass it is that you have chosen to stare at before you next point fingers. ;)

Because

are better to look at then small-reared males.

I have a female avatar, but I am a guy in RL. Main reason: cheaper armor for the same reason stated above. My wife's brother got us hooked... and he mentioned that female armor was decidedly cheaper. In addition, I had a great view in third person while running for TPs in the beginning

excuses excuses..lol I dont believe any of these reasons.
I say most do it for freebee's from males who want to hook up.. or may they are closet gays

The second reason.... that is :D :D

The first reason I can see, and have seen that exact behavior in more than one online game. It's a given.

However for your second, please explain why a gay guy would want to look at a female av. I don't make that connect like, at all.

because it sucks to stare at a guys ass all the time. why do you think ppl wear coats?

The common excuse I've heard is 'why would I want to look at a guy's ass all day?'

But I have a male character, so it doesn't apply to me. I guess I'm comfortable with who I am IRL so I made my avatar male and made him look as much like me as I could.

In truth I'm not 100% sure what caused me to pick an F avatar over a M avatar. As it turns out, as others have mentioned, there are some benefits such as lower markup on some armours and a more pleasant third person viewpoint. But I didn't know about the former when I created the account and I don't really think I thought much latter either.

I think ultimately I just didn't really see it as all that big a deal. I was signing up to a sci-fi role-playing game and thought it'd be interesting to have a female avatar. I didn't see Oni as a reflection of me, I saw her as a character I could develop much like an author develops characters in a book (I have two other Onis now in other MMOs hehe).

There are a couple of downsides though. Firstly, you get to experience first-hand what dickheads some people of my gender can be. Only some, but in my five years in EU I've really had to cringe at some of us guys. Secondly, although I never saw Oni as being 'me', other people do. At first that didn't bother me, I saw Oni as a character and other avatars as characters. But after you start to get to know people in game, on the forum and in RL, it's quite clear that a few people (some M but also some F) are made to feel awkward by the fact my avatar is a She but they know I am a He. So eventually I largely dropped the whole role-playing thing; MA destroyed the believability of EU from that point of view a long time ago anyway. I get called 'Oni' and 'Jimmy' from people I know in-game now, either is fine with me.

For that reason if I was starting over I might choose an M avatar instead. Although I'm still quite attached to Oni even if I don't view EU as role-playing so much these days.

It's a pretty safe bet to say gay men aren't interested in the female form.

I think it'd be a losing bet. My second girlfriend at uni was quite, um, busty and also had quite a lot of gay friends. And the male ones were obsessed with her boobs lol, seriously.

I always pick a female avatar in any game ... simply because I'm not gay ...

I hope that means that the majority of male players aren't gay because they chose to have male avatars.

hehe ... nah. But I don't use a game as a projection of myself, so to speak. I use it like a game ... so I try to pick something I don't mind staring at for hours a day.

Makes sense. Interesting that some people don't use EU as a projection of persona like I and many people I know do.

Sarah Connor, Jordan O'Neill, Trinity, Karen Silkwood, Lara Croft, Lisbeth Salander ... tons of reasons to be a woman hero too at Calypso  ... no matter what gender IRL ... think what you want (Suck my dick!;)).

I generally always create male avatars in games, cause I'm male. I don't often find the want/need to play out a female role. I'm a guy irl, and bisexual as well. :D

Not saying I'm a shemale, but I do love cutsey or sexy female clothing, and that might be the only reason I would have created a female character in this game hehe.

Have you ever seen a male Nymph? The lovely society who introduced me to this game do not accept male members. I have no regrets.

As far as third person character avatar vs avatar as projection of self - I've seen much more of the latter on Calypso, which is also the first place I was introduced to the concept that my virtual life can be an extension of my physical life. I came into this game from over a decade of roleplaying. My first act was to begin writing the personality and history of my character. The name developed out of that story's first gleams.
In the past I have tended to act as Lefty would whenever convenient. Over time though, I've watched myself take the wheel more and more, shoving Lefty's personality to the side ... I kind of miss the roleplay aspect.

No male avatars? But they don't care that you're a male IRL?

I made a girl avatar one time in a MMO and within five minutes some guy hit on me that was it for me no more girl avatars. As for the armor well if it cost more then it sells for more too.

This is the reason there are many male avatars online with females IRL controlling them. :D

lol, id imagine that isnt so much the case in eu. Seems to have a pretty cool community, if it were to happen anywhare it would be places like swamp whare people havent learnt how our community works yet...

As someone already said, freebies come a lot easier in any game when you represent yourself as a girl. So, even if you never played EU but had previous experience in any other MMO you could assume your life would be easier in EU if you chose a F avatar.

My personal experience leads me to believe most newbies who are F will try to scam me at some point, already had 3 situations where that happened, one of them really serious in which 'she' told a bunch of her soc friends I had scammed her and her pretty eyes were enough to convince them, so they decide to go out to PA and shout I am a scammer.

Definitelly an interesting point that was raised, it having to do or not with the avatar being an extension of self. In my case it most definitelly is, I try and make it as similar to me as possible, be it in appearance or behaviour, but more creative people probably prefer to go role play about it. Always good to find out different perspectives and opinions about the same subject.

:)
