MA is not a casino... proof

also the avg global value is BS imo, doesn't say anything about the runs where you don't get a global & go home with less then 60% returns..
Also, it depends a lot on what kind of mobs you hunt

skills make the gambling more efficient.

skills make the gambling more efficient.

Perfect!

Sums up the debate beautifully.

Only thing to add is that knowledge of the loot system makes gambling more efficient too.

Ah, yes... proving a claim by MA, by referring to... a claim by MA...

I especially find this funny:
MA has stated in everyone's support case who has bitched about returns... "your luck will change"

Luck? And it isn't a casino? Then what does luck have to do with it?

Or how about this:

So you see from a statistic standpoint MA is not a casino... there is a formula that goes into loot... and all people are the same in the end... on an average global standpoint...

How is this different from a casino? Last time I checked, gambling was all about odds and chances.

So, although this is an interesting thread, which may have some merit, it sure as hell is no PROOF of anything.

Or rather, it MIGHT do that. I'd say it doesn't do that until i see a non-random theory that works.

Lol fair call. Any non-random theory that works is likely to be someone's own trade secret anyway.

...
Ah, so your point is that anything involving luck is gambling.

Well then EU is gambling ofc.
Like pretty much everything else in life.

No, my point is that you aren't proving anything.

I'd glad we all agree that EU is gambling.

What if i just log in to chat though, am i gambling then?
Or if i'm a nondepositor?

Hey, I can walk into any casino in the world and I don't HAVE to gamble. Being there makes me WANT to gamble though, especially once I've got myself a few free drinks.

Or if i'm a nondepositor?

I'd say you can compared someone who sweats for peds to play to some cheap bastard who collects loose change from the streets/boardwalks of Atlantic City, then pumps them into the nickel slots. A boring grind, just to put your meager finds into the lowest reward areas of the casino.

Then again, you'd be able to buy food for that loose change if you wanted. In EU you need 1k ped to withdraw.

And witte, it's not other peoples money if they lost it :D

You don't need proof...

You just need faith. ;)

ROFL!

Can't remember your position on this Chrome, but I hope you're being sarcastic!

If not:

Speak for yourself. I need proof.

now explain to me why Entropia isn't gambling?

Ugh... we've said it again we've said it a 1000 times...

MA is not a casino... Its a company that runs a program called Entropia Universe.

EU on the other hand.... while not a casino... plays very much like a slot machine... where participants who dont trade or socialize or sweat must in most cases spend PED, or items that represent PED (bombs, ammo, ME etc..) to gain items that represent PED.

Unlike a casino... characters in EU gain skills and can develop themselves to possibly hunt more cheaply... or move up to bigger mobs/tools/bps "bigger slots"... where they will like before spend ped to get ped back in some way shape or form.

Now also unlike a casino items are valued at different rates... now you could call this a casino if casinos were run differently.... Player A values items A much higher then Player B simply because Player A needs that item for his own gambling/slot playing.... unlike Player B who needs the item not because he can continue as he did before.

The game is full of gambling... we can all admit that... Some people gamble hard... some gamble small much like the real world... its still gambling...

We all take our chances in this game to go out with XXX PED and we all hope to come back with more... and are usually happy with a bit less... but we are choked if we come back with much much less.... Some people can play EU and not gamble at all really... generally traders or people who spend 99% time sweating or just hanging out talking... but for the bulk of the game and for it to work and run it needs people to gamble on mining, crafting or hunting.

THis will be a neverending dicusion... if it is a casino or not depends on your definition of "casino", for instance. It can be a perception of activities ingame, or it can be by a strictly legal definition, for instance.

If a total beginner can strike a 10k mining tower with first 10 bombs, or a more advanced miner can get a 100k ATH with one click, it's fairly close to a lottery, imho. Not to forget crafting oreamps on "condition". More closer to poker is duelling in pvp4 - when you see a green dot on radar it's up to you to look at your hand (armor, weapon) and to decide an action (to call, ie shoot, bluff, ie run for him and hope he's just a miner who'll take off, or lay ie hug a mob or hit TP-chip). Instead of "counting cards" there is lootchasing and look for patterns in mining and loots.

okay okay - you are right - EU is not a casino...

however...

the primary professions of hunting, mining, and crafting are all essentially gambling.

.
